It would help to know what the OSD says; is it a message from the monitor or from the main system?

Screen won't turn on

You can try to do the monitor self test.
Monitor Self Test:
1. Physically test the monitor autonomously from the computer.2. Switch both the monitor and the computer off, and then disconnect the VGA cable le from the computer.3. Turn the monitor on, pressing the power button for about three seconds. The self-test screen will come up .4. If the image is clear, bright, and shows red, green, and blue, the monitor is working properly. Video issues may be due to the video resolution in the computer, and not the monitor.5. If the image is not apparent and intense or the colors are not accurate, then the trouble is with the monitor or some of the (OSD) settings. In this case, test your particular monitor's information for OSD.
It is always important to check the color of your power light for so you can distinguish if the monitor is defective. Getting red lights on the the power panel states that the power section of the monitor is faulty.

I can't get my icons and taskbar to center on my monitor. The start button is off screen to the left. How do I center everything so I can access them?

Press the OSD (On Screen Display) button on the monitor.
Use the UP/DOWN and LEFT/RIGHT buttons to navigate through the menu, to get to the "horizontal position" menu.
Press the OSD button to "select" that setting.
Press the LEFT/RIGHT buttons to "move" the image LEFT/RIGHT.
Press the OSD button to "apply" the new location.
Wait a few seconds, and the OSD menu should close itself.

Why am I getting osd main controls locked flashing and then the same message saying unlocked and i am unable to clear it - posted in Monitors ... the attention osd locked is constantly flashing on and off...

Most of the monitors have a function to lock the OSD to prevent accidental changes in the configuration of the monitor.
If you are constantly getting the message about OSD being locked and unlocked then it means that the OSD locking button is constantly pressed.
Usually it is the "Menu" button on the monitor which is used to lock the OSD.
Check if the Menu button is constantly pressed.

Screen too bright, have just got monitor from e-bay and there are no instructions on use.

Check all the buttons near the ON/OFF button.

One of the buttons will activate the OSD (On Screen Display).

The OSD controls everything about the monitor, including BRIGHTNESS and CONTRAST. Use the other buttons to move between menu-items, and to "select" one of the sub-menus, and to raise/lower settings, and to "exit" from a sub-menu to the main-menu.

Osd main controls locked/unlocked pops up every 5 seconds

Hi,

Press the Menu button ( marked OK) for one minute, or more, and a blue/red menu list should appear on screen.

Using the adjust button (immediately to the left of the OK button) by pressing the arrows at each end up or down as required you can enter the menu and select an action by scrolling.

At the end of the list of possible adjustments on the left of the screen (brightness, contrast, etc) is the Reset section.

On the righthand side of the screen is a flashing Yes No choice which automatically alternates.

The trick is to select the Reset choice on the left and while selected press the OK button when the Yes alternative on the right of the screen is flashing.

You VDU should then Reset and all will be well.

OSD doesn't appear

You will find the number one motto from many of the Tech's is "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!!" If you must fix it try the latest drivers for your video card and for the monitor. The OS(XP) is always changing. Keep the drivers up to date. Otherwise. Don't mess with it. Good Luck, Let me know what happens. Tim
