Thanks A person has already told me about the intel site. One correction needs to be made known the ram is ddr2 not ddr. I have since sold the laptop so it is no longer an issue for me.

No it cant be updated

Your acer aspire is based on the 910GML chipset

The Mobile Intel® 910GML Express chipset is optimized for the Intel® Celeron® M processor.

Here you can compare the 910gml chipset and 945 which is used by the core 2 duo.

http://compare.intel.com/pcc/showchart.aspx?mmID=22210,7419&familyID=7&culture=en-US

As you can see on the page there are key difrences between the chipsets other runs on ddr2, yours on ddr. the FSB support is 400 on yours and 533 / 667 on the 945.

also you can see the supported processor familys right there.

you can look for a
Intel® Celeron® M processor,
Intel® Celeron® M processor Ultra Low Voltage (ULV)

Upgrade cpu with maximum FSB of 400MHz

Theoretically you could because both type of processors have the same socket.
Here is a link with more data about the socket:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGA_775
And here is a list with dual core processors: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_2_microprocessors
Good luck with your upgrade and keep us posted about this with a comment. Thank you for using FixYa

CONFUSION WITH INTEL CORE DUO AND INTEL PENTIUM DUAL CORE!

You are worrying about nothing.

Intel Pentium Dual Core and Intel Celeron Dual Core are both Intel Core Dual processors.

The performance rate is mesured compared to a single core processor so your 2.2GHz dual core will do the same amount of work as a 4.95GHz single core.

Difference betweeen intel celeron, core duo, mxx

Hello , Intel processors come in all shapes and sizes so I'll try to be brief by discussing only the ones that are current on the market. The market for intel processors are currently divided into 2 sides. One side if for single core processors while the other is for multi-cores. Single cores: Pentium 4, Pentium M, Celeron, Core Solo (Not very common) These cpus are single cores meaning that they only have one processor. They are relatively cheap compared to multicores. The difference between these are clock values, hyper threading, 64 bit support, and FSB. Pentium 4 and Celerons are cores found in desktops while the M is found in laptops. Single cores generally have low FSB but high clock speeds. Think of it as having a lot of water pressure but only a straw to dispense it. That's how fsb and clock values work. So single cores should provide you with a lot of raq power but they're not good at multi-tasking or jobs that requires it divide it's attention. Games like Crysis will be better with multi-cores because the pc has to generate so many different things at once while focusing on countless calculations and processes. the hyperthreading support does help the single core pentium 4s with multi-tasking but it's not as much as multicores. So if you're just looking for something with a lot of raw power. These are for you. Multi-Core Core Duo, Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad These are multi-core processors developed by intel. They are used in both laptops and desktops except for the quad. It's used in desktops only. The first 2 processors are dual cores while the last is quad cored. These processors have a high FSB rating and generally lower clock speed. So you have to be careful when looking at these. The high fsb means that the system does really really well with dividing and transferring it's processing power, but if you get a low clock speed then there's not enough power to begin with for the assignment. Example you may have a large hose but if you have low water pressure.. it's useless. That's why multi-cores are great for the modern pc user who multitasks way too much but if it's under 2.0ghz in clock speed. You should be worried about not having enough raw power to get you through intensive work. Multicores generally cost a lot more than single cores since they're relatively new technology. Btw the Core 2 Duo is faster than the Core Duo by about 7%. Meanwhile the quadcore is the ultimate in processor goodness but costs $400+. I hope these facts helped.

What processor is better than 3.46 d celeron processor, for upgrade?

The fact about processors is that generally u will end up with changing the entire chipset because the new processors generally dont fit with old chipsets. If you are ready to shell out some extra money, you can choose the latest range of "Intel Core2 Duo" series or even go to the Quadcores.Post your budget and i will suggest a suitable one.

Upgrade the processor on a Toshiba equium l40 series from a celron M

The core2 duo chips will be a different socket to your celeron cpu so can do that unfortunately. You may be able to upgrade to a faster cpu of the same socket type but will probably need a bios update for it to run at proper speed.

Unfortunately laptops arent really designed to be upgraded at all bar extra ram/hd/dvdrw.

Hope that helps?
