My dell inspiron keeps freezing and the CPU usage is showing 100%. I ran Spybot and nothing came up. I have Norton Internet Security antivirus but it is showing nothing. Tried to run a defrag but it...

At this juncture your best bet is to run the msconfig command and see what is running in the background and using up all of your resources.

Antivirus programs are wicked for screwing up a machine, especially Norton. Dump the sucker - might even have to get a special program to accomplish this.

If that does not do it then just backup your files and restore your machine to its as new condition using the software that came with your unit.

Processor is extremely SLOW

Processors are what they are. They run at the speed that is selected. In your bios you can change the automatic settings and speed it up or slow it down but if you've done nothing to change this then it should be the same speed as it was when you bought the computer. I will say that if you're running XP then your computer probably has slowed down considerably since it was new. As they add more and more service packs and security updates windows seems to bog down more and more. Also as you install programs on your computer, they all think that they are the most important software on your computer and should start automatically every time windows starts. If you do nothing to stop them then you have more and more programs running at windows startup using up more and more computer resources. If you're adept at computers then you can fix this by clicking on run and typing "msconfig" and disabling some of these programs under the "startup" tab. BE WARE!! Some of these programs are needed and you can mess your computer up bad if you disable a bunch of stuff you're not suppose to.

This problem may happen ifthe Norton Internet Security OEM version (which came free with thecomputer) is not uninstalled properly. Download the Norton Removal Toolfrom this LINKand run it multiple times (2-3 times, you may have to restart thecomputer after each time you run the tool). Then try to install Norton360. Backspace button and del button unresponsive

Wait until the updates have completed and you have rebooted the system as backspacing in some environments, including install processes can change pages, so this may be a temporary condition which should remedy after your install is completed.
