Without a firmware update your PS3 needs it to be fat32 as you've
noticed, and without the use of a utility Windows will not let you
format a 1tb using fat32
You're best be it to download a program called SwissKnife, it's a
utility that will allow you to format the drive the way you want
WARNING: Before using SwissKnife to format the drive, you have to take
all the data off of it (onto your computer or another drive), if you
don't then when you format the drive every file will be lost.
Well you install any software that came with it. Then, plug it in. It should show up in My Computer as a drive. It can be used as such, cut, copy, paste. When you want to store a song you simply choose that drive as the destination for that file. If there is any software run that first, and see if there is any built in copying/compression software that you may find useful. Always have a read of any manuals & help features first.
If not removed safely, external devices can lose information when disconnected.
