GE XL44 Gas Range; OVEN not working

My GE XL44 Gas Range Oven does not work but the stove top does (I think its only 4-5 years old).

Can someone tell me why this happened? Please email me at r.mchale@comcast.net.
Should a service call be placed or is this an easy fix that I could take care of?

It appears to be a same proble. One thing that I notice in the bottom part of oven was there was no pilot light. How do I make this pilot light work?

  • Robynrohr Jun 18, 2008

Oven doesn't turn on. It fires up on the top in cleaning mode. Also, the right side of the burners don't ignite unless you put a flame to it. I hear the clicking noise coming from the left side, even when trying to turn on the right side. My husband just made a big batch of enchiladas and can't bake them!

Minutes after turning off the oven I had to turn it back on (pizza wasn't cooked as well as I like) and it just wouldn't come on. The burners still work and the panel still works. This happened once before but mysteriously it worked again after turning it off and on a few times. Doesn't want to start any more.

I have the same problem and cannot find the pilot to re-light it.

  • dsbrown44 Nov 26, 2008

Neither broil or bake work on ours, but panel and stovetop both work (seemingly) fine.

No gas seems to be flowing when I try to start the oven, as there is no odor.

I've heard it could be the heating element, which, if not working, will prevent gas from flowing.

Hi there,

Not sure that I can help but will give it a go. Often the igniter plastic covering comes off the wiring from the heat of the oven and the igniter arcs on a metal surface on the oven. I had this problem with a gas oven I had. Check along the igniter wiring to see if it is arcing. Best way to find it is to firstly locate the wiring then ignite the oven WITHOUT THE GAS ON. If it is arcing you should be able to see a little flash. Check to make sure it is flashing at the right spot first near the pilot. Easiest way to rectify this problem is to wind electrical tape around the igniter providing you can get to the wire. If you have to pull out the igniter you can buy a plastic product called Heatshrink from places like Tandy or Electrical Hardware Stores. Just put some Heatshrink or Electricians Tape around it and it should solve the problem. Only other thing it could be is the igniter needs replacing. Hope this helps.

Regards
Bryan

Unplug the range.
Remove the oven racks.
remove the oven base pan.
remove the flame spreader pan.
remove the glow bar ignitor on the left hand side of the gas burner and replace it with a good ignitor.

My GE XL44 Gas Range (Model JGBP34 GEP 1A) control

If you like the stove and it in good shape otherwise, have it fixed. The parts are still available. The stove in good used condition (without leak) is probably worth $75.00. May cost that much to repair it. Will cost approximately $450.00 to replace it with equal range. If it's a standing pilot model (no electricity needed) they are unavailable and your new range will require power to use the oven. Hope this helps.

GE XL44 oven does not heat

12 years old? If it is a gas rnge yo need to get a gas technician out to fix it. I would probably say it s time for a new one. Hers is a couple of things to think of when getting a new stove. 1) Everyone wants a self clean. But 90% never self clean. can save up to $200 w/o that option. 2) 80% off people buy a stovebased on looks. A stove may not be pretty but work just as good as one that is.

GE Profile Spectra XL44 oven wouldn't light, stove top and broiler works

We have our second GE stove and it has started to do the same as the rest of you.  Our first stove began to suffer igniter issues after 4 or 5 years.  I called GE and was given a simple test procedure for the igniter using a multimeter that I don't remember and likely wouldn't post regardless lest someone do things incorrectly... In any event, as I understand, the gas flow is tied to the igniter temp.  As the igniter ages, the temp that it can achieve gets lower. Eventually, it hits a point where the temperature isn't sufficient to reliably ignite the gas and our problems start.  The solution is fairly simple.  Replace the igniter. So, call a repair person and tell them the problem.  They can come out and instal the new igniter.  Unless you are a licensed or certified repair person, DO NOT DO THIS YOURSELF.  Let the pros handle repair to gas appliances.

I have XL44 oven JGBP26. I replaced the glow ignitore on the oven but still will not glow. I carfully tested the current to the ignitore and showed 125 volts, I also tested the resistance on the control valve lead and to ignitore and showed 1100.
