First look in device manager and verify that the network adapter is enabled, if so you can try disabling it then shut down and reboot the PC.
Once booted, go back into device manager and enable the network adapter.
Run the software that came with your router and follow the steps provided.
Make sure your network cable from your router is NOT connected untill instructed to do so.
You will need to have the network cable from your modem connected to your PC for the router software to detect network connection.

Good luck, I hope this helps.
Have a nice day.

I just purchased a refurbished Gateway 835 Gm desktop for 400.00$, Good purchase?

Well youve paid for and got it know, so it shouldn't really matter. I think once you have something then you should not worry about the cost unless it starts giving hassle. I bought my PS3 and a few weeks later it dropped by 150€, but I have it and Im happy with it.

Comtrend Are Junk?

Hi,
What do you mean your computer is freezing? If it's the operating system that is freezing then it's highly doubtful that it's the new router which is at fault. If the computer is slow and unresponsive then clear your internet cache, perform a defrag and also check the drive for any errors.

To clear the internet cache right click on internet explorer and select properties from the list. In the general tab where it says browsing history click on delete and follow the on-screen messages.

To perform a defrag click on the start menu then all programs, accessories, system tools and the disk defragmenter.

To check the disk for any errors click on computer, right click on local disk c and select properties, select the tools tab and check the volume for errors. Make sure you check both boxes to fix any errors found and then be patient as it cane take some time to complete.

If the problem is the internet which is freezing then perform a speed test on your internet connection and compare the speed to what your supposed to be getting. You can perform a speed test here >>>>>>

http://www.speedtest.net

If the speed isn't what it's supposed to be then of course get your own router.
I do recommend Netgear myself as i will only have them routers for my own personal use.

Regards.

Having trouble 2Wire 1800hg router and Vista connectivity issues; dropping internet. Any ideas?

It could be a number of things. Most likely is interfearence. It could be caused by a router near your home that in using the same channel.Log into your router or use the 2wire control panel on your computer and change your channel to 11 or 1 .Also mixed mode wireless settings can be problematic.Try using 802.11b, 802.11g or 802.11n.   Another cause are 2.4 ghz cordless phones that use same frequency as the router.
Other things can wack it out as well like a microwave or if you are moving the notebook around the house the ductwork in your home could block the wireless signal.
I've had the same trouble for weeks. I broke down and bought a Belkin Wireless N router and had no trouble since.
Sorry for the long winded answer.

I purchased a refurbished emachine W3629 and TCP protocol is not allowing my Belkin N USB adapter to process thru to the internet

your people kept telling me that it was a router issue and signaling problem, but I Kept telling them that that was not the issue since I was chatting with them on same wireless router that they were telling me to reset. I finally found the trouble to be the following. On refurbished machines loading Vista operating. They certifiy machines and send them out. Once customer gets them, they are prompt to load Mcafee anti virus system that comes with system. Once installed, their is a compatiblity conflict between Vista and Mcafee. Once Uninstalling Mcafee, internet came up. Suggest this to your techs for future callers. I spent 3 hours chatting and they were persisent that is was a router trouble, when I knew it was a software issue. I finally got it to work on my own.

well my friend it could be that the router lost power instantly and decided to reset itself.

so all you need to do:
reset the router by clicking on the reset button in the back of the router.
and then go with the setup one more time.

that should be it

cheers.

How do i hook up another computer to my 2wire

If you would like to use two computers on the same intenet, you'll need to purchase a router. Linksys is one of the top brands in routers.

Routers allow you to connect a vast amount of computers to your inter. The router connect to your modem and then you connect the two computers to your router.

A decent price of a router is about 49.99. Here is a good one from Best Buy: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp;jsessionid=ODENRVPZTXBBRKC4D3JFAGI?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&id=pcat17071&type=page&st=linksys+router&sc=Global&cp=1&nrp=15&sp=&qp=&list=n&iht=y&usc=All+Categories&ks=960
