this is a p.o.s game. I wish I could get my money back. $500 boat anchor, yeah, theyll send me a coffin and keep my game for 2 or 3 months then ship me a refurbished, scratched up broken headache that once belonged to someone else.

Turned it on, said it needed to re-build my hard drive. then said there was an error and it needed to reformat my hard drive and that all my files would be deleted- no opportunity to save anything or back anything up. you have no alternative but to hit ok. then it says "reformatting- dont turn unit off" 0% with the progress bar. After 4 hours it was still on 0%. The game has only been used to play ps3 games, nothing ever aded, never dropped, nothing ever spilled in, on or around, dust covered when not being played and a fan to assist it in keeping cool while running. This has been a coddled unit from the word go- always turned off correctly and once off, disconnected from a power source so there was no chance of a power surge, spike or any other excuse Sony could use to say its my fault and not thiers.

Hooray sony. Keep up the good work, maybe we can get a few americans to build simething here that will work again

If you're feeling more ambitious, replacing the hard drive might fix the problem. It's a bit of a gamble, since if it doesn't fix the problem, you're out the cost of an extra hard drive. But, if it does work, you've got some additional bragging rights, and the hard drives available today are up to four times as big as the current offerings by Sony; you can make your PlayStation 3 a 320 Gig model.

There is a small panel on one side (the bottom if you stand it vertically) that pulls off, and inside a smaller casing that unscrews to reveal an ordinary 2.5 inch, 5400 RPM, SATA laptop hard drive. Web sites such as CNet include video tutorials that can walk you through the process. If you've ever upgraded a laptop yourself, this is pretty similar.

I'm planning on doing this on my own PS3 as an "elective procedure." There's a way to back up the hard drive first, so you can transfer game saves, video downloads, and so forth. Unfortunately, this doesn't appear to be an option if you're experiencing hard drive failure.

I think this runs a good chance of fixing the problem, but it's not an absolute guarantee. But, if it does fix it, it could also give you a sizable upgrade.

Hello,

try the steps below. Its from PlayStation Forum:

1. Turn off Playstation®3.
2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

The current Recovery Menu supports:
• Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION®3 System.
• Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default.
• Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files.
• Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION®3.
• Restore PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch.
• System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION®3 System

If the above steps still does not solve the problem, then I think will have to update your Ps3.

Update your PS3 (in the settings menu the 1st option).

Go on the internet browser on the PS3 then go on the menu press triangle then on one of them there are delete cookies and the delete the others as well as cookies.

You could also try this as well: put the PS3 on then press the eject button (with no disc in) then hold it and switch the PS3 off at the back with your finger on the eject button still holding it, then put it back on and the fan test should be working this may cool it down. It might be over heating.

If after trying the above options and it still does not solve the problem, then maybe the lens is weak and that's why it cannot read any disc.

But if your problem is not still solved, then maybe you should call sony for further assistance.

Good luck.

Ps3 hardrive corrupted

You can restore your PS3's harddrive by loading your console into Safe Mode.

Choose option 5 'Restore PS3 System' to restore all default settings and reformat the harddrive.

I hope that helps.

Data Corruption

Just keep clicking "OK". I think it's restoring each of your save files one by one. I've had the same problem recently, but after a while it will just start up again with all your wonderful data restored to its former glory.
