saket,
try to find out if there is any button for you touchpad on the keyboard, if you found then press this and try.
If you did not find then try the following:
Goto Start -> Control Panel
Double click on mouse icon
Then goto Device setting, there you can find an option/button to make your touch-pad enabled/disabled. Make it enable and try.

check out your Device Manager, if there is any yellow marked component then you need to install driver for that.
