Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

I just purchased a model WES1130 microwave oven and wonder about the following two items. First, does the front panel have back lighting where ere key tabs are located)? It is very difficult to pick out the required tabs when trying to program a heating function. Secondly: when entering the following key tab sequence: [reset] -- [time cook] -- [numbers represtnting heating duration]-- followed by [start] requires frequent repeats/resets, for about 1/2 the tries end with on action taking place in the oven. Please advise answers to the above complications. Thanks for your attention to the above. Cary Townsend 4827 Barlow Drive Bartlesville, OK 74006-6918 web addr: doctown@cableone.net

GE microwave model # JES1855PBH 04 .This was purchased less than a year ago. It just stopped working. Will not do anything, does not even light up controll panel.

First, check your circuit breaker to see if the circuit may have flipped off. If it isn't off...

Lucky for you that this item has a one year warranty. Look at the second to last page of the instruction manual and follow those directions. If you bought it using a credit card, have the receipt and the original manufacturer's warranty is out, call the credit card company and ask them if you can make an extended warranty claim. They will usually double the manufacturer's warranty.

The lower handle retainer is broke

If only the door handle is broken, it can easily be replaced on MOST microwave ovens by removing the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. The following link explains how to access and replace the door handle:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3696942-microwave_oven_door_handle_replacement

The average cost for a replacement handle usually runs about $20 - $40. Replacements may be purchased at the websites listed in the link I provided.
If the model number is correct, this is a parts illustration of your oven door:

http://pcappliancerepair.com/model-display.php

The door handle on this model has two parts (items 3 and 8). Depending on what is broken, you may only need to order one or the other. Both parts, combined, is still only about $20. The part numbers are WB15X10119 and WB15X10120, respectively.

The door handle is a simple repair that can be done with the door in place, or with the door removed. You do not have to uninstall the oven if this is an over the range model.

If you have any questions, please post back with your and let me know. I hope this helps you

Everything works, sounds normal, but it will not heat anything.

Owners of a GE WES model might want to look at this blog post.

Hopefully its still under warranty.

If so, GE Customer Service is here.

If not, I'd replace the oven.

The turntable on my Sharp Carosul II Microwave stopped turning. I suspect a drive motror of belt if one exists but cannot find a repair manual for the unit. Any help is greatly appreciated. FC

On some microwave oven models there is a switch on the front panel that enables the user to turn the turn table on or off. If you do not see this feature on your front panel display, you probably have a problem with the motor that drives the carousel. This problem is commonly caused by a turntable motor that has worn out and needs replaced. There is no drive belt on most models. The drive motor shaft is attached to the coupler which is what the carousel plate rests on. The following link explains how to access and replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3555716-replacing_a_turntable_motor_on_a_microwa

This is a very simple repair, that usually is not expensive. The motor usually averages about $35 - $40, but the price also depends upon the model. This repair can also be performed on an over the range model microwave oven WITHOUT uninstalling it.

You can usually purchase replacement parts at the any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

The first three sites listed offer helpful exploded view diagrams to assist you in parts location/identification. If you have any questions, please post back with your model number, so that I may be able to provide you with better assistance. I hope this helps you.

I have a recently purchased microwave since CHristmas. It was working wonderfully. Recently, I moved and plugged the microwave back in. THe light is on but will not program anything. I tried to plug into...

We have the same model. It's a piece of garbage. I loved the retro oval window and all and the size was perfect for our space. Then, the paint started chipping off the inside front, the timer started working intermittently, and the oven would just quit in the middle of the cooking cycle! Today, it finally just up and died. I unplugged and replugged it. No go. Finished cooking on stove top. My suggestion? Do like we're going to do and go buy another microwave...not another GE!

Good luck! Peacenikkie@charter.net
