Lock your Mozilla Firefox Homepage from Hijackers permanently

I got soooo tried of toolbars like Ask and Google changing my startup tabs and then not being able to restore then even using session restore on TabMixPlus XPI for Firefox to I devised my own method to lock my desired tabs just for me now I share this with you all, note you can still install this XPI make sure that you set it to show homepage on restart so that if you use restart it will still work, as well as just closing the browser window using the usual red right-hand cross

The two modes of TabMixPlus showing Firefox Built in Session Restre and TabMixPlus Session Manager you can't use both at the same time >>

16477c5.jpg

This is a tried and tested 100% to lock your homepage from hijackers and give you the tabs that you want to start with time and time again I have set my two tabs to the Router control panel for Sky Sagem F@ST Router and my FixYa page, use your own...

First create a file called homepage.txt and place these line inside it and save it as a text file with the file extension *.txt

//
lockPref("network.proxy.type", 0);
lockPref("browser.startup.homepage", "http://192.168.0.1/sky_router_status.html|http://www.fixya.com/users/spideray");

If you want extra tabs add more pipelines | after the aspx then download this and to create a homepage.cfg file use 13 as the shift by value

http://home.comcast.net/%7Edabbink/dabbink/Download/ByteShifter.zip

b39e0d9.jpg

You then need to change the all.js in the C:Program FilesMozilla Firefox folder you need to add this line to the end to action you new file and save it

pref("general.config.filename", "homepage.cfg");

When you restart Firefox you will see that under the options tab the homepage will be greyed out OR locked.

ebadee9.jpg

For a second opinion check this using the about:config option in the MR Tech Toolkit XPI also worth installing I have used this since it was called local install way back. Then benefits of this method are 100% locked from hijackers and user definable whenever you want to change your homepage just copy and paste the new URLs that you want after each pipeline make sure that you create another cfg file before you start the browser it will fail unless it can read the homepage.cfg file you have been warned.

Here is my Sky Drive Link for an example that you can use HERE copy the entire folder to you Mozilla Folder then you can use it if you want to change the homepage.txt to add or remove tabs don't forget to Bit Shift it afterwards

APPCRASH error please help

When program files or files within your computer's registry have become corrupted, this can cause the programs to unexpectedly crash. When a program crashes, you will likely get an Appcrash error. The error message will say "Windows Media Player (or whichever program has crashed) has stopped working" and then list rows of technical information regarding the cause of the crash. Unless you are a computer programmer, you may never fully understand what caused your program crash, but that doesn't mean that you can't fix it.
Delete any new programs that you have downloaded. Often, the cause of corruption in a computer system are bad downloads that bring harmful files onto your computer. If you started to get the Appcrash error on your system after downloading a new program or software from the Internet, it's highly likely you have downloaded a bad product. Use the "Add/Remove Programs" feature in your "Control Panel" to get rid of the program immediately.
Uninstall the program that is crashing. It is possible to fix the program's corrupted files while the program is still installed, but to make sure that you clear the program files completely, it is safest to completely uninstall it from the system.
Run a full scan of your computer. Your computer should already have antivirus software installed that can scan for corrupted files and either fix them or delete them from your system. If you do not have antivirus software on your computer, that could be a big part of the problem. Purchase and install antivirus software as soon as possible. These are designed tor from outside threats. Once you have the antivirus program installed, open it and click "Scan Computer." The antivirus scan will isolate bad files and you will be given the option to remove them from your system.
  1. Reinstall the program that was crashing. Now that the corrupted files have all been removed, your program should run smoothly after reinstallation.
  2. Check for program incompatibility. If, after a thorough scan and cleaning of your computer and reinstallation of your program, the Appcrash errors continue, the program you are trying to use may not be compatible with your program. For instance, there are some DVD softwares, such as Media Now, that do not work correctly with Windows Vista. These lists can be easily found online. If this is the case, you will have to purchase a software program that is compatible with your OS
You should download a program such as RegCure and run it from time to time. If you are unable to download a copy let me know and I will give you a link on my web where you can download it.

Cannot open Outlook Express after compacting the files...

Thanks Everyone.. I fixed it with ther help of a great person.. DONT BUY THE PROGRAMS THAT CLAIM TO FIX ... All I did was the following:
Rename the Folders.dbx file:
  1. Click Start, point to Search, and then click Files or Folders.
  2. In the File name etc type, type folders.dbx.
  3. In the Look In box, click your primary hard disk (usually drive C), and then click Search.
  4. Right-click the identified Folders.dbx file or files, and then click Rename.
  5. Type folders.old, and then click OK.
  6. Start Outlook Express. This creates a new Folders.dbx file automatically.
Just change .dbx to .old That is all that was required.. RENAME!!! Not buying programs that dont work...

When I opened it the folders were a little messy.. but that is fine when you consider I felt that I had lost the program and all Emails stored. Problem only occurred after a suggested compacting of emails by the program.

RegGenie DID NOT FIX
Errorwiz DID NOT FIX

Good luck and I hope it works for you..

Unknown connection protocol for default or autosession

Assuming you can get past that error message:
  • go to the Options menu, then Global Options
  • Click on the + to the left of Options to open the item
  • Click on Default Session
  • Uncheck the box "Use auto session
  • Click on OK
If you can't get past that message, uninstall SecureCRT and re-install it - it sounds as though some of it's configuration data has got corrupted. If you are comfortable doing this, use Windows Explorer, make hidden files & folders visible and then go to
C:\Documents and settings\your-user-name.

For all the following, ensure SecureCT is not running - even in the System Tray.

Look for the SecuerCRT folder in Application Data and Local Settings\Application Data (I can't remember which one it's in offhand). In that folder, there's a folder called Config. Assuming that you don't have a load of connections set up that you don't want to lose, delete the whole folder. SecureCRT will ask you where to re-create it next time it starts.
It's also possible to delete do it this way:
  • in the Config folder, edit global.ini with notepad.
  • Find the line that starts "S:"Auto Session Name"="
  • Delete the whole line
  • Save and close the file
  • Restart SecureCRT

Iexlporer probleme

Try finding Netconn.exe in your C:\Windows directory and double-clicking it. If the error still occurs, delete Netconn.exe, and then click Start, click Run, type MSCONFIG (hit enter), click the Extract File button, type in NETCONN.EXE as the file you would like to extract, click the button labeled ‘Start’, type the path to your WinME installation files where it says ‘Restore From’ (example: D:\Win9x), and type in ‘C: \Windows’ where it says ‘Save File In’ and click OK.

Naturally, back up registry, move copy of deleted keys to desktop before removing.

Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE,System, CurrentControlSet, Services,
ICSharing (the whole thing).

In addition to removing the whole ICS Sharing folder,
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ICSharing (entire folder),

Remove HKLM\System\CCS\Services\RemoteAccess\LocalNameResolution (all keys)
Extract ics.inf, icshare.inf and icsharep.inf to a temp folder (like C:\ICS)

Dreamweaver Corruption

you can recreate your configuration folder

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Macromedia\dreamweaver 8

rename the configguration folder to "configuration old"

Note: "USER" is your Windows username. If you are unable to see the “Local Settings” folder, it may be possible that you don’t have explorer set to view hidden files and folders. In explorer, click on Tools > Folder Options, click on the View tab and enable “Show Hidden Files and Folders”. Click ok.
