Your response was very helpful. The spellin attrocious but understandable. I suppose the spelling rates low as long as the solution is right. Thanks very much.

That motherboard with support 2 x 184 pin 1GB memory sticks. It supports PC3200, PC 2700 or PC 2100. You can mix and match but note that both memory sticks will operate at the slowest stick's speed.

Will an Asus A8M2N-LA motherboard accept a DDR400-PC3200 in addition to what is already installed?

Yes, that Locating Notch is there for a reason. Keeps people from putting the wrong ram memory in.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00757531&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3253996&lang=en#N122

Uses DDR2 Sdram that is either 533MegaHertz, or 667MHz.
That is PC2-4200, and PC2-5300 respectively.

{PC2-4200 is sometimes known as PC2-4300 also.
It's up to the ram memory manufacturer }

DDR2 Sdram has 240 gold plated contact pins. 120 on each side.
DDR Sdram has 184 contact pins. (Gold plated also) 92 on each side.

Each contact pin has a purpose. It is either a pin for power, or ground, or signal.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Generic_DDR_Memory_%28Xytram%29.jpg

The above is an example of DDR Sdram ram memory.
(This particular example is DDR Sdram that operates at a frequency rate of 266 Million Cycles per Second, or also can be said as 266Megahertz)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR_SDRAM

The Maximum Total Amount of ram memory for the motherboard, is 4GB.
The Maximum Total Amount for EACH ram memory slot is 1GB.
(1GigaByte)

IF, you have only ONE ram memory module, ('Stick'), it goes in Slot 1.
On the motherboard it may have DIMM 1 next to it.

It is the ram memory slot that is closest to the Processor.
A Processor ALWAYS reads ram memory Slot 1, First.

At the bottom of a ram memory module are contact pins.
Gold plated.
Everywhere else on the ram memory module is the BODY.

Handle a ram memory module by the Body, because the Body is coated with a see-through protective plastic.

Refrain from touching the gold plated contact pins.

On the sides of the ram memory module, are blackish rectangular objects.
These are DRAM chips.

http://computer.howstuffworks.com/ram.htm

With the recent disasters in countries that produce DRAM chips, the prices of ram memory have gone way up.

I am having p4 PC with 915 motherboard & 255 DDR-1 RAM. what is the max RAM the PC can use ? I want to know that DDR-2 RAM will work on 915 motherbord ?

Hello,

it does not have an exact maximum RAM.

The reason the Ram did not work with the mother board is because, the Ram is not compatible with the mother board.

Until you get the exact compatible RAM, the board will not recognize it.

I have experienced this a lot of time.

I wish you the best.

Some memory brands are not compatible with some motherboards. Go to the motherboard web page and check it for the kind and brand of memory you can use.

Upgrade of RAM

184 pin DDR DIMM is the correct information :) The bus speed of the ram would range from PC 2100 - PC 3200. I assume the Max amount of ram will probably be 2gb though unless your motherboard specifies a higher amount.
