This is the same laptop Dell Inspiron 8200 15.0 ASV UXGA where I had the blinker/cursor problem. I think it may be repaired now that I downloaded TouchFreeze. I typed a couple of long paragraphs and there was no skipping. But,,,due to the weird nature of this problem I am not rating it yet because I want to be absolutely sure.
I have another problem, or two. The first one is that I can't find the place to post a new message on fixya.com so I am writing to you directly. Secondly it is about my CDRom and burner not working. I have been told by Dell that this plus my former(!) keyboard problem I would need a new motherboard ($500 done at the factory with a few other cleanups done). A tech that I took it to installed other physical drives and got them working, but then they only worked once and stopped. The computer now recognizes the burner and the CDRom drive, in My Computer, which it didn't before. But when disk is put in the message reads Please insert a disk. or something like that. Perhaps we will also have good luck with this, and then I can put off having to buy a new computer. This one is 5 years old and otherwise working well.
I've gotten that message (please insert a disk) before. It is annoying and I don't know what causes it. But I do not get the message every time. It could be that the burner doesn't like your CD-ROM disks. Sometimes I try a new disk and relaunch the application and it works. You could also look for an external CD burner rather than buy a new laptop.

Hi- I have a Toshiba Satellite P305D laptop, and the DVD/CD-ROM Drive will not recognize any type of disc, nor will it autoplay. I have had this problem before (where the drive whirs for a bit when a disc is first inserted, but then does not play or even visually indicate that a disc has been inserted on the D:/ icon in the My Computer tab). I installed a "Microsoft Fixit" that seemed to work--something about iTunes and other programs affecting the drive--but now the Fixit says that there are no changes to be made. ???
