Printing on card stock or envelopes

Feeder won't work on my stylus photo 2200 when using heavier papers and envelopes....

I have the same problem with my Epson 2200. The manual feed won't work when following the instructions (removing roll and cutter, lowering lever to position paper, setting lever to envelop position, pressing paper feed). The printer acts like it's aligning the paper, but after that, nothing. The printer just sits there with the paper feed light glowing (not flashing).

Make sure you have selected the right media under your properties, (paper) and there is no obstruction in the paper path, no folded, dog ear, or paper is concave nor convex

I have an HP Photosmart A646 printer that I bought in the hopes of printing to 5x7 card stock. We have pre-printed card stock that we use for gift certificates and we need to be able to feed the card stock...

Thanks for visiting FixYa!

Depending on the program you are using to print your gift certificates, try this-

1) Open the program and open the file you use for your gift certificate.
2) Click on 'Layout' then 'Page Set Up' (probably found in the top menu bar by the right side of, FILE.)
3) Select 'Landscape' and then select, 'Custom'.
4) Enter 5x7 for height and width.
5) Enter the information you need in the data field, (ie, name address, etc.)
6) Select, Print.
7) When the 'Print Manager' box opens, click on, 'Properties'.
8) Click on, 'Type' and choose, "Envelope'.
9) Click on, 'Size' and choose 5x7. - and click, OK.

Your printer should have a slide where the paper is inserted. Place one of the 5x7 cards in the slot just as you would an envelope and slide the slider until it is 'close' to the card but not directly against the card.

Click, 'Print'. The printer should recognize the card (due to its thickness) as an envelope and print it.

I wish to use my HP Photosmart C8180 to print heavy weight cardstock... is there a setting that I can select to do this?

Step Three: Check the paper type Verify that only recommended paper is being used for printing. The recommended paper types and weights for most HP printers include:
  • Plain paper, 20 to 24 lb (75 to 90 gsm)
  • Legal size paper, 20 to 24 lb (75 to 90 gsm)
  • Card stock, up to a maximum of 110 lb (200 gsm)
  • Envelopes, 20 to 24 lb (75 to 90 gsm)
  • Photo paper, 145 lb (236 gsm)
NOTE: Supported paper weights and types vary by product. Check the Specifications sheet for your product for more information.

If you use card stock up to a maximum of 110lb then there should be no special mode to enter to print on this type of paper. Photo paper weighs in at 145 lb maximum which is heavier and can be printed on without selecting any special 'mode.'

Good luck on printing on heavy card stock.

The printer prints the paper out to the side and then causes a paper jam

As the following paper may cause problems in the printer, do not use them:

- Thick paper: Paper heavier than 105 gm2 (28 lb) (corrugated paper, etc.)

- Thin paper: Paper lighter than 64 gm2 (17 lb) (tracing paper, thin letter paper, etc.)

- Paper with no rigidity

- Folded, wrinkled, or torn paper

- Wet or soiled paper

- Paper smaller than 54 mm (W) x 86 mm (H) (2.13" x 3.39") (sheet feeder)

- Paper smaller than 89 mm (W) x 127 mm (H) (3.50" x 5.00") (cassette)

- Non-rectangular paper

- Paper with adhesives

- Paper with holes (However, loose leaf can be used in the sheet feeder only.)

- Paper in bound form (such as a notebook)

- Photo postcards or postcard with image seals

- Non-empty envelopes

- Envelopes with double flaps or flaps with adhesive

- Embossed or coated paper, post cards, and envelopes

- Newspaper, flyers, tissue paper, etc.

- Media other than paper, such as cloth and plastic

- Folded reply post cards

EPSON 1280 SILVER INK JET PRINTER, Stopped printing on glossy

Problem with paper feeder. Replace paper feeder or replace just pick up rubber at paper feeder mechanics. You can add thickness of rubber by adding black double tape (flexible) (about 1mm).

Hi,
I m not sure what the specification of the paper type you are using however if you are using card stock than you should use manual feed Tray and in the printer driver properties you should select paper type as Card-Stock to make sure there is no print quality issue.

Printing heavy weight invitation stock on Epson R200

The card is probably too thick. Try cleaning the feed roller in the Sheet feeder to improve its grip. Check the GSM of the paper is within the spec of the printer.

Envelope feed problems

The problem is due to the type of envelope materials you are attempting to print on. The envelope stock (paper) is much too thin or lightweight. This is the primary cause of the wrinkling.

I would suggest that you switch to a heavier envelope material, but try to stay away from linen envelopes, as these will tend to wear down the fuser mechanism faster that normal. Most printers and copiers all have this classic problem.

I worked as a design engineer for Kyocera-Mita America for nearly 6 years and have seen this problem many times over and the only available solution is to change the stock. I (KMA) did work with a company in Canada who developed a specialized mass envelope feeder system for many of our systems. However they made major design changes to the feed mechanisms and feed roller pressure to deal with lighter stock materials.

Hope this information helps you out.

Cheers,

Keith

PIXMA 830 Smudges when printing envelopes

On my MP780, be careful to select the appropriate paper type; I was getting black smudges on the left side of my envelopes until I explicitly set that my paper type was "envelope" from "plain paper".
Another idea is to adjust the "ink drying wait time" to a higher level.

Paper Jam with no Jam

You may have overloaded your paper feeder with heavy card stock and caused a very tiny jam that you have not found yet so that it will act oddly as it is. Look right up inside unit with a torch and down back where the paper goes in.Try printing on plain a4 agian, place a small stack in feeder, reset paper guides too. Also could be your paper sensor, fixable under warranty.
