The brushroll on my vaccuum isn't turning either. I've checked and ensured all hair/threads are removed and there is no belt (it's a beltless vacuum), any other suggestions on how to fix would be appreciated! I have a Kenmore model 116 31912103. Thanks!

You are right, there is no belt on this model. First check where the hose plugs into the bottom, on some of these models there is a switch that turns off the brush roll when the hose is not there. There is an actuator that when you insert the hose, it pushes against the switch turning on the brush motor. It may be broken. There are also other switches and a circuit breaker. The top cover will have to come off to check the other switches and motor, wich is partr of the brush roll. If you go to sears.com, click on the parts link, put in you model number, the next page will give you options to click on and then you can see a parts list and a picture breakdown of the different sections of your vacuum.

The roller does not turn. The motor still runs alright.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
It sounds to me that you have a broken belt or a bad brushroll and either one should be replaced. If the belt is a flat belt, then the belt change is every 4 to 6 months and the extra belt stored in a Ziploc bag in the refrigerator. If it is a geared belt then you would change it every year or so depending on wear and how much it stretched. Also the brushroll should spin freely and check for no thread or hair buildup on the ends and on the brushroll itself.
So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

My kenmore progressive canister vacuum turns on only if the hose is attached to the floorwand. It seems that the canister motor is not working because I can't hear anything coming from the caniste

If the floor wand is powered, there may be an electrical connection that is broken when the wand is disconnected. This is part of the design, not necessarily a fault

How do i reset a sears cannister vacum cleaner

Hello, you can not reset the canister only the power head, if y ou picked up something and it got caught in the roller, it will shut the motor off, on top off the head is a red botton take a pen or something small to push the botton, and that will rest the powert head, if the canister is not running the cords go bad, and will need to be replaced. If I can help, feel free to call 1561-848-3387 Thank you, Teresa.

Roller does not turn; I was vacuuming a rug and a string got stuck in roller-took it off but now the roller will not turn. suction is fine.

The roller drive belt may be stripped, worn partway through where it goes around the motor shaft, thrown off the motor shaft, or broken. Take the bottom plate off the carpet sweeper and have a look.

If the belt was damaged when the roller brush got stuck, then you get to replace it. On most of these, the easiest way is to put the new belt around the roller pulley, reinstall the roller, stretch the belt around the end of the motor shaft, then turn the motor by hand while pushing the belt on. If the motor also has a pulley on it, you may have to remove the motor screws to get enough slack on the belt, then pull the motor into place and put the screws back in.

The belt in the PowerMate won't run

If the motor on the floor attachment runs, it could just be a worn belt - it can be replaced. Also check the switch to turn the attachment on, and the electrical connections in the hose and wand from the vacum all the way to the attachment. An electrical meter could be used to check for power at the motor in the attachment also - just be careful. Here's the instruction book, in case it's of use.

Carpet function rollers don't turn

Most likely a broken belt. If the brush roll is turning freely, then check the belt.
