Question about Televison & Video
Even if the TV is connected to the VCR, chances are that it would only be the signal (RF or Audio/Video) cables and not the power cords. Both not powering on would indicate an electrical problem such as:
1. defective power strip as wall outlet;
2. blown fuse or popped open circuit breaker;
3. a near lightning strike or power outage that has affected the AC section of the 2 devices.
One that you can try is to remove the VCR from its current location and try plugging it elsewhere. If it powers up (and hopefully you can eject the tape that needs to be returned), then you likewise have confirmed the electrical problem,
Alternately, you can manually removed the tape (with the possibility of wrinkling a few areas) by opening the top cover, determining the motor/gear drive that ejects the tape and just basically winging it. Of course your best bet would be to seek the services of a qualified professional.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FixYa.
