This most likley is s screen connection problem. You need to take off the top case for the screen. Usually two screws to a side. May differ with machine company. once screen case is off, there us usually a cable covered up up silver tape or white tape. take tape off and push two video connections togeather. Replace tape and put cover back on re-install all screws. If this does not work , you need to replace the back light board. Good luck!

Screen has been flickering, does not go black but gets really dark. Sometimes if I tap it or move it is stops. Is my screen going bad?

sounds like a loose connection somewhere. find a local computer repair shop. Often those guys can diagnose a common problem just by glancing at the symptoms. GeekSquad is great but costs lots.

If you have tried using different input devices, looked for loose contacts

Dell Inspirion Laptop Screen Randomly Flickers, Then Blacks Out

not to get to concerned just yet, a few tips, when you press on the top of the laptop case by the screen area in the back of the laptop do you notice the screen flickering off? and when you let go dose it come back on? if so this can be a faulty wire or bad inverter, they are actually both very simple to fix and relatively cheap fixes.

Screen keeps going black, and sometimes computer restarts

You could have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp.
To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions.

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:

  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Who manufactured it? Better call them to check if the monitor's still under warranty. Im thinking it has to be replaced and may eventually fail completely.
