Most likely its a nardware problem. If Device manager shows the audio driver is working and enabled and when you plug an headphone into the headphone/audio out and you only get sound from the right headphone then the audio amp chip is faulty. If the headphone sounds OK then the easiest solution is to connect a set of powered speakers to your laptop.
The most common issue with speakers. I hope you have not plugged in the headphones while trying to hear sound from speakers. However, go to control panel - sounds & audio devives - and select the correct sound device installed for your computer.
First thing I would try is hooking up a set of headphones. If you can hear sounds thru the headphones then there could be an issue with the headphone jack. (the jack acts like a switch, switching OFF the speakers when you have a plug inside, and switching them back ON when you remove the plug).
If you dont hear sounds thru the headset or speakers, check your device manager, and remove/reinstall your audio driver. You can download the driver at the dell website Support.Dell.com.
Check your system if you are able to hear sound using any headphone..if you are able to hear sound from headphone then the problem is with your dell speakers, else you need to update sound drivers for your system...Thanks..
You must set the sound output on your computer either through the motherboard sound controller or through the windows control panel. In each of these sections will be a speaker set-up control allowing you set up the type of sound you want to come out of your computer. Headphones only, speakers only, Headphones and speakers. Hope this helps you with your problem.
unplug your headphones, and plug the speaker cord into that jack. its possible that the speakers you are using require power either by a cord or batteries and without them, it wont play sound. also, possible, your speakers are bad.
I may be too simple of an answer but that would happen if the headphones weren't plugged all the way in. If there is a bend in the connector and it's hitting the speaker they may not be plugged in all the way.
