Camera won't power on

When low batt warning came on, I put in a fully-chraged replacement. Wouldn't power on. Tried fully charging "low batt" but still will not power on.

my camera will not power on, I changed the battery (fully charged) and it still does not turn on...camera is one and a half years old.

  • photofotoguy May 19, 2008

Yeah, I've had the camera for about 2 years or so. Recently, I tried to use it for my Prom, but it just wouldn't turn on.

I remember I took a photo the week before, but I DID recall the camera asking me to set the date and time all over again...Interesting, huh?

But the month before, during Spring Break, I took it on a cross-country skiing trip and the light snow did touch my camera . Could THAT be the reason? But I was able to use it for the next couple of weeks preceding the Prom.

    Thanks.

For no reason at all, my Canon just won't turn on. I tried recharging the battery and even buying a new battery and nothing will work. I didn't get any message previously to it not working. Any advice would be great!

Having the same problem. Tried to charge old battery, no luck. Purchased a new one today and it still will not turn on! Any suggestions?

  • sabinahm Jul 11, 2008

I'm having the same problem as well! I've had the camera for about a year and a half, and one day I tried to turn it on to look at my pictures from the night before, and it just won't turn on.  I tried a different battery and everything, but nothing is helping.

camera lens extended then everything went dead! Not a battery problem. Any help?

  • Anonymous Jul 14, 2008

I have the same problem...It was working fine one day and I didn't drop it or anything, but when I tried to turn it on again later that day it wouldn't turn on. I tried recharging the battery but it didn't help.

My camera won't turn on either. It isn't damaged and the battery is fully charged...

  • polarbear848 Jul 15, 2008

Ditto with ours as well! Never dropped it or anything and always keep in a padded case when not in use.
Sounds to me like Canon should do a recall!

  • cray22 Jul 19, 2008

Camera wont turn on, and its fully charged.

  • brendaha Jul 29, 2008

Camera will not turn on! Batteries are fully charged and the connection between the battery and camera is clean. Expensive to have serviced!

All digital cameras contain power units called DC/DC converters. Power failures can be caused by failed converters and/or blown fuses.

I was having trouble with the "low battery"

If you used a voltage 3 times the required voltage then you have probably damaged the camera beyond repair. There may be a protection fuse on the circuit board inside but locating and fixing this would require an experienced electronics technician. i wouldn't hold out too much hope of getting this camera repaired.

how long do you usually charged the batt? to make charge last slightly longer leave the batt inside the charger for an hour after the charger light goes off. if you have a fully charged batt you should be able to take approx. 300 pics or 2.5hrs approx.batt life. for viewing pics it should give you approx. 6800 pics and approx. 5.5 hrs. of course, number of still images and and batt life may vary depending on the camera settings.so if you're zooming in and out, using the flash, going from camera to play mode, turning cam on and off, using other settings and features of the camera, this will cause the batt to drain much faster.also ambient temperature also affects batt life.if it's very cold, the batt drains a bit faster.also, it's recommended that if you're not using the camera to remove the batt.retaining the camera settings, date & time will cause batt to drain even if your not using it. if did this and still you think it's odd that your batt drains quickly and looses charge even if it's fully charge, it might also indicate that what you might be a defective batt. one way to find out is to try using the same type of batt from a friend or a relative that has one to confirm and further isolate issue.anyway, supplied accessories has the same warranty that applies to your camera.so you may send it out and have it replaced if needed.hope this helps.thanks:)

I have a sony cibershot camera for over a year now, it has always worked nicely, up until a month ago, it suddenly wont turn on anymore. I,ve already charged and re-charged the battery but nothing...

make sure the batt is charging and working fine.check also the batt contacts.make sure its clean.insert batt to your camera.instead of pressing the power button, press the play button instead to power camera on. if unit turns on,might actually be an issue w/the camera unable to power on in camera mode.if it turns on initialize cam (p.75 of the manual).see if it works.if still wont turn on try using a diff batt (or if you have an optional ac adapter model#acls5k use it, attempt to power on cam to isolate issue w/power source).if batt or ac adaptor not available try to check batt with another cam if possible to test batt. if still unit doesnt turn on using a fully charged, diff batt, or using an ac adaptor, unit would reuire service. hope this info helps.thanks:)

My Kodak digital camera's shutter is stuck on open & it will not stay turned on. Camera does not indicate a low battery, just charged.

Here are the steps:
1. Make sure you will install a new or fully charged battery/batteries into your camera.
2. Clean the battery contacts.
a. Remove the battery/batteries and the memory card from your camera, then wipe the battery contacts with a soft, clean cloth.
b. Reinstall the battery/batteries into your camera
3. Without the memory card, turn on your camera.
4. Pls test with an alt. batt.
If you do not have access to a dif. battery.
Pls. take the batt out of the camera. Insert the charger into the unit from the main socket and turn the camera on. If the camera works you will need to replace the batt. If not you will need to order a No power repair.

False low battery warning

Same thing happened to me when I used alkaline batteries. Have you tried fully charged NiMH? If not you may have a "leak". Your next option is the service center.

Display blurred and cam showing low batt

Bad luck is that the CCD sensor in your camera has stopped working properly and needs replacing. You are lucky though because Canon repairs this fault on S1 - IS free of charge so phone them and inquire.
