Which wires do i use to connect my laptop to my TV ??

I am confused as to which wires i need to use my tv (Sony 42' HDTV) as a monitor. I don't know if i could use an S cable or just one of the usb cords that would connect to both because i bought this used laptop and i have 4 ports that i have no idea what they are used for???? So please if you know which wires that i could use and what these other ports ae used for please let me know. Thanks so much!!

Well i don't know how to check what kind of video card there is, i went and i don't know if this is what i am looking for but it says ATI Radeon Xpress 200M. But i did check it has 640 mb of RAM and 1.60Ghz.

Nope i have not that's why i didn't know what port to use on the laptop, but my husband did buy a S video wire last night that was a 4 and 4 but the tv is a 4 and the laptop is a 7 prong and the 4 and 4 didn't work so i am guessing it has to be the exact 4 and 7??

are the s video wires the only wires that can be used for my laptop, since the tv is an hd?

Well..you'll need more horsepower than that one has..and a special video card, unless it's already set up that way...can you look into control panel, and see what video attributes you have..the S Video would work fine, of course, if you can drive it that way from your compaq

no..but those are the ones that will work best...high speed equals high resolution..even USB 2.0 can't touch S Video.

Connecting a Toshiba lcd tv to a Sony Vaio VGC-LA3

you should have a (vga) tv-out socket usually blue with about 16 pins in it,if you have not which is unusual then refer to sony for the laptops specs and location of tv-out socket.
The Nvidia graphics card should have one I believe the Gforce go card is the one for your system unless upgraded and is advertised to support this function.

Connecting plasma tv to pc

You need to either connect to the TV the cord that your computer monitor would connect to or have a video card that supports S-Video and the appropriate cables S-Video and RCA audio out cables for either.

Then you must select the appropriate input on your TV, such as VGA or S-Video (and audio in.) .
