Thanks -I tried that, also changing batteries and card

  • maree0 Apr 28, 2008

Thanks for that - have tried different cards and one that already had photos on it which showed on review screen but taking new photos on that card still show as black.
You can tell the camera is on as there are numbers/ settings coming up on the screen but no images. Therefore the black images downloaded to computer are black still.

Thanks for that answer - have tried 3 different cards - 2 with the same result and one with images already on it but while the original images on the card are viewable and downloadable, any new image is black which makes me think it is probably not the cards but a camera problem. I will try formatting card on the computer and see how that goes.
    cheers

Thanks - still no go. Think it may be the innards as suggested.

Thanks for your help - I did also try changing the lenses - no luck so figure the problem is in the body.

To further assist you with this, the screen doesn't show anything no matter what you do correct or does it just come up black when you take the picture? Can you tell if the screen is on or is there no difference when you have the camera on or off.

Have you tried this card on a different camera or tried loading pictures on it onto a computer or at a store photo department?

Is there anything else that you could tell me. thanks

It is not the card, it is definitely something wrong with the camera. The lens isn't working or something else along the way to storage is broken. You will need to open it up or take it to be serviced. It could be multiple things, can't know without looking at it for sure but I have no doubt that it is the camera now

Try formatting your card in your computer and then in the camera. If problem persists then try another memory card. You need to determine if it is a card or a camera problem

Recording images takes a very long time after turning camera on

Are you using a typeII Cf card. You might try reformatting the card. Or go pick up a type II or III card, the type IV's seem to not do as good in the Canon..

Try formatting the card in the Camera (some Camera's do not like using cards that have been formatted by the PC).

Otherwise I guess it could be a bad card .. plug the card into PC, do a 'full' (not quick) format and then COPY about 1G's worth of images onto the card .. then 'open' the card in Windows Explorer, switch to 'thumbnail view' and see what happens ...

No image -- just colors on led and photo

I found the same fault, but for me it is intermittent. I have tried all sorts of things to clear it, but the best seems to be leave it turned off for a while. I bought my Ixus 400 in Sept 03 and the fault started in Jun 07. It shows already taken pictures with no problem on review on the LED screen, but the screen blurs (with motion) and records that same blurred image.

Camera won't take a picture

It could be that the shutter has gone out or the mirror is not going up they are only rated to last for so many shots. That is what canon told me when my 10d did the same thing. I dont remember what the repair cost was.
