Question about Sony KP-57WS500 57" Rear Projection Television

Sony recall for KP57ws500

When I click on the link that you posted, it shows article unavailable. Do you have anything further on this? My screen started with the crazy flashes then moved into the constant solid blue stage. I found a fix online about a year ago but it started all over again and now my blue is completely gone.
Thanks for your help

and yes, i have the unit on a power surge. This model and similar models have well documented problems with the crt's.

My dad's an electrical engineer and already checked the solder's when the tv first started doing this. The tv would flash blue or have blu convergence lines across it. In researching it with other problems online, this group of rear projection tvs have various problems with the color guns. Other owners have listed green, red or blue flashes in various forums. I just found one where the person's green had completely gone out and he had to replace it but I'm trying to see if Sony has recalled it due to so many owners having problems. I found the one post that had listed it but the link was eitehr broken or it's no longer posted. When I try entering my model number on the sony website, it show no news for that model so I'm guessing I either missed out on it or the person who posted the link was wrong. Thanks anyway.

this model never needed a recall, the software recall I believe that you are referring to wasn't needed for this model according to sony

If anything, I would bet a bad solder. Check for bad solder on
convergence module. May have bad stk's. Do not neglect looking
for bad solder on dsignal and defl boards.

If you have no experience with this or don't feel comfortable opening your tv, then I wouldn't recommend doing it.

another question for you, does the tv flash constantly or just once in a while. and when it flashes, does it flash between picture and a black screen or what?

If you plug it directly into the wall, does it still continue to flash?

yeah, as far as I know, there is no recall and the color gun sounds like the problem then and maybe in the future sony will finally recall it or cover the replacement of it. Please let me know if I can be any more help

Marlanab...it's not clear who you're referring to here..can you add a link back to the page where that broken link is? and then we might be able to solve this.

btw, do you have this unit on any power protection system?

Blue and red arched lines on screen when background dark

Sounds like you are describing retrace lines that could indicate that your CRTs or something in the drive circuits are bad.. Check the resistors on the CRT sockets to see if they are in tolerance. If they are try turning the red and blue screen adjustments down just a little this should take the lines away. You will however be needing service in the not to far future. Turning the screens down should help if the resistors check out. Let me know if you need anything further.
