GE VG4056 will not rewind

Hi, my GE VG4056 will not rewind when the tape is stopped. It will fast-forward when the tape is stopped, and it will rewind and fast forward when in search mode, but it will not rewind when the tape is stopped. It hesitates for a few secondes the just shuts off. what can i do to fix it?

GuideThe photo sensor that senses the tape end has blown or dry soldered.It is on the right side of the mechanical deck and senses the transparent end of the tape through the square hole in the video cassette.
