If it is plugged into the computer while you are turning it on it will have the icon with the USB and when it comes on itunes will pop up for you ti sync but if it is unplugged and you turn it on you will only get the apple icon....

What is wrong with my ipod ao 5th generation


Flip the iPod Nano's "Hold" switch to "OFF."

The iPod Nano cannot be turn on if the switch is set to "ON."


Reset the iPod Nano. Move the "Hold" switch to "ON" and then "OFF."

Then, press down the "Select" and "Menu" buttons on the Nano. Hold those buttons for about eight seconds.



The Apple logo will then become visible on the iPod Nano. Once this occurs, try turning the iPod Nano on once again.


Connect the iPod Nano to an iPod charger or a computer that is turned on via the iPod Nano's USB cord. Charge the Nano for at least 30 minutes.



Then, try to turn the Nano on.

Update the iPod Nano's software.



Connect the Nano to your computer via the player's USB cable. Open iTunes, and click the iPod Nano's name on the left part of iTunes.


Click the "Summary" option at the top of iTunes. Then, click on the "Check for Updates" button that's positioned in the middle of iTunes.


Follow the instructions that appear inside iTunes in order to install the updates on the Nano.

My ipod will not turn on


Find out what to do if your iPod won't turn on.

Several things could prevent iPod from turning on. Check each cause in this order to find out what's wrong.

Make sure the Hold switch is off

1. Check to see if the Hold switch is on. It's located on the top or the bottom of iPod. When it's in the on position, you'll see an orange patch.
2. To turn the hold switch off, slide it until you no longer see the orange patch.
3. Press any button to turn on iPod.

Make sure the battery is charged

iPod won't turn on if the battery is empty. Instead, a low battery screen appears for about 3 seconds when you try to turn it on.

To charge your iPod, connect your iPod to your computer's built-in 6-pin FireWire or high-powered USB port or connect it to the Apple iPod Power Adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet. Note: iPod models without a Click Wheel cannot be charged via USB. iPod shuffle requires a high-power USB port to charge. iPod nano and iPod (5th generation) can charge via USB or FireWire, but they require USB to sync with iTunes. If you are connecting via USB and the battery is completely discharged, there may be up to a 30-minute delay before iPod powers up. Click here for more information.
Reset iPod

If iPod still does not turn on or appears to be "frozen" you may need to reset it. When you reset iPod all your songs and files are saved. Some customized settings may be lost.
Let the iPod battery drain

In rare cases, iPod might get into a state in which it needs to be drained completely before it can be reset. If iPod didn't turn on after you reset it, follow these steps:

1. Disconnect iPod from all power sources and leave it disconnected for about 24 hours.
2. Reconnect iPod to the Apple iPod Power Adapter or computer and reset it.

Update iPod's software

If iPod turns on after you reset it, use the latest version of iTunes to update iPod.


Additional Information

If you have tried the solutions above and iPod still won't turn on, check the following:

* Make sure iPod is the only device in your FireWire or USB chain. Disconnect everything but the mouse, keyboard, and your iPod, then see if it will turn on.
* Make sure you are using the FireWire or USB cable that came with your iPod, and that the cable is in good condition.
* Try connecting iPod to the built-in port of a different computer to see if that works. Note: If using a portable computer, make sure it is plugged in to a power source and that the lid or display is open. If the lid is closed the computer may go into either standby, sleep, or hibernation mode and iPod will not charge properly.

If you still can't turn iPod on after performing these steps, it may need to be repaired. You can arrange for repair at the iPod Service Website.

iPod may not power on, may be stuck on the battery logo, or may have stopped responding while playing music (in which case the Click Wheel doesn't respond).

Ipod woulnt connect to itunes


Reset your iPod:

1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)

2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

Then connect it to your computer and see if it is recognized by iTunes.

If not, try other USB ports on your computer, especially any on the back panel.

My ipod is disabled


You will need to restore your ipod back to factory defaults. To do this follow this procedure:

1. Make sure the ipod is turned off and connected to the pc via the USB cable. Also make sure that itunes is open on the pc.
2. Hold the sleep (top button) and home (front button) buttons until the apple logo appears.
3. When the apple logo appears let go of the sleep button but keep the home button pressed.
4. When the itunes icon and a picture of a USB cable comes up on the ipod you can let go of the home button.
5. Give it a minute or two then itunes should detect that it has found an ipod in recovery mode. Perform a recovery and update and the ipod should be restored to factory defaults.

To unlock your ipod you will need to do a factory reset. To do so use the following procedure:

1. Make sure the ipod is turned off and connected to the pc via the USB cable. Also make sure that itunes is open on the pc.
2. Hold the sleep (top button) and home (front button) buttons until the apple logo appears.
3. When the apple logo appears let go of the sleep button but keep the home button pressed.
4. When the itunes icon and a picture of a USB cable comes up on the ipod you can let go of the home button.
5. Give it a minute or two then itunes should detect that it has found an ipod in recovery mode. Perform a recovery and update and the ipod should be restored to factory defaults.

When i got done chrging my ipod it froze


Important: If your iPod is frozen or won't turn on, it may be because iPod is paused or the Hold switch is in the locked position. If so, a lock symbol appears on the screen. Slide the Hold switch to the unlocked position and check the screen.

Ipod lock


put the ipod in disk mode and see if it comes up on itunes.
Press and Hold the Menu and Center Buttons until the ipod apple logo come on the screen. The quickly switch your fingers to the Play/Pause and Center Buttons and hold until a check mark appears on the screen. Connect to iTunes and restore
