Running lights My 03 softail running lights, beside the headlights wont power on. I have checked power to the switch and there is none. Looks like it comes from the head light? Could the ballest inside the headlight housing cause this?

THERE THE POWER I BELIEVE COMES THROUGH THE LOW BEAM SWITCH ON THE HANDLE BARS........I AM HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE DRIVING LIGHTS STAYING ON WHEN I SWITCH ON MY HEADLIGHT MODULATOR.............MODULATOR USES THE HIGH BEAM SECTION AND YOU MUST HAVE HIGH BEAM ON TO WORK.............THIS CUTS OFF THE RUNNING LIGHTS........AM ATTEMPTING TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM..

Tail light and foot pedal brake light does not work but hand lever brake light works.

Probably a bulb/ rear brake switch combination. If your front brake switch is working, then half of the bulb is working. No taillight issue, probably a bulb. No rear brake light, probably the rear brake switch. Located on the lower right rear of the frame, behind the exhaust. Check for power on the orange/white wire at switch. If you have that then check for power on the other terminal of the switch while pushing on the pedal. The rear brake switch is hydraulically operated so you must have adequate pressure to activate it.

Problem with charging system on 1993 softail every time i ride it have to charge battery for the next time have had new battery lights on dash but wont kick over is there spose to be any other wires to the...

Here is a few tests you can run. First with the bike off take a multimeter in VDC check the battery voltage at the battery. (should be at 12.5 VDC) If not first charge the battery. Second start the bike, with it running and multimeter again in VDC check voltage at the battery while slowly opening the throttle(should see between 13.2 and 14.5 VDC at the battery) If you have more then 15 VDC then you have a bad voltage regulator. If you have less then battery voltage from the first test. You may have a bad stator and/or a bad voltage regulator. Third test with bike turned off and multimeter in continuity. Place one meter lead into either of the two holes for your stator lead(coming out of the front of the primary drive case) the other meter lead to any good ground. If you get a tone or continuity then you have a grounded stator, and it has to be replaced before proceding any further with charging system tests. If you do NOT have continuity then check the wires from the voltage regulator running back to the battery for any breaks or chaffing, if none are found. I would have the battery load tested as well.Good Luck and thanks for usinf Fixya.com Let me know what you find please.

Hi

It would appear that you have two (2) issues:
1. wont even crank - Due to the massive current required by the starter a component is installed between the starter button and the starter. This component then switches the battery to the starter motor. In cars this is the starting solenoid, in most bikes, this is the starter relay. Normally in the starter relay there would be 2 big terminals for the battery and the starter motor cables with 2 smaller wires for the starter switch and ground. Try this - try pushing the start button with the headlights on, if the headlight dims considerably, then the starting relay is good and the motor is bad; on the other hand if the headlight dims just slightly or not at all, it is the starting relay (the one with the clicking sound). I was made to understand that there was a recall order due to starter relay and/or 30 amps breakers.
On the other hand, most starter motor problems could be:
1. the bearings/bushings at the ends of the armature;
2. carbon brushes;
3. commutator segments (the multiple small copper plates that the brush contacts with).
However, it may be to your advantage to simply replace the motor should it be deemed defective, difficult to secure parts or not economically reasonable to go down component level repair.
2. backfires dies under load - There are 2 major requirement for a gasoline engine to run, fuel and ignition. Backfiring is normally indicative of poor fuel to air mixture (most likely) and/or slightly off ignition firing (just a possibility). Areas to check are you air filter, carbs, plugs, intake manifold, seals/locks.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Can't get rid of "LINE IN USE"

I have repair some cordless phone a lot with your same problem .Your Handset is encountering a left over switch on your buttons what i mean is that the switching is logged. do some cleaning on the carbonized switch of the handset . check if there is moist assembling on switches if none try to clean the carbonized switch and keypad with alcohol cotton buds try also to swipe out the worn out carbon on the switch. if these wont help . your handset might have component damage already like an IC defect . that is why your phone wont work . It is best to bring you phone to the manufacturers service shop.
