Question about Televison & Video

Hi! My starview box lost some channels so I did a reset and auto scanned. It said that 476 programmes had been found. Once I went back in to browse through the channels, I could only see 439! After channel 439, it took me back to channel 001. I tried the same procedure thrice but got the same result. Please help!!

    You're probably right but channels such as sky sports 1 & 3, star plus, Sony etc are not even in the channel list anymore as opposed to the situation before the scan. My only purpose for the rescan was to get back the sports channels which had frozen. Now I haven't got them back and lost more in the process!

Maybe there is a total of 476, BUT ONLY 439 are actually working?

Not all channels are user accessible - some are used to update the firmware of the receivers, some are used by the network for messages and status updates, some are even present in the sat ID  but are not actually broadcasted. In all of this cases the receiver simply ignores them so they do not appear in the channel list.
Unless of course your receiver doesn't count  the radio channels with the tv ones in a single bunch. Check that the remaining 37 channels aren't radio ones.

    You are probably right but some channels which I could always see including sky sports 1

    In that case you must enter in the receiver's settings and add the corresponding transponder frequencies and the symbol rate - normally only the ones from the package you subscribed are included after a reset. 



    You can find your satellite here  http://www.lyngsat.com/   , find the missing channels in the list and input their data in the receiver.

    I have always been able to get the same set of channels for around 3 years now so subscription issues are not the problem I guess. I am a virgin media subscriber. Can you please explain in a bit more detail how I can use lyngsat.com

    After reading your last comment i realized something - in the last few months Virgin has begun upgrading their scrambling services from Nagra 2.5 to Nagra 3. For that your receiver must be upgraded to the last available firmware (you must do that from its menu) and your subscriber card must be replaced with a new one. If you haven't done that then, when you have reseted the unit, you have lost all firmware upgrades and all updates , hence you lost even more channels.
    That site i provided is useless since it has nothing to do with your problem. You must contact your local Virgin shop and find out how to change the card. In the mean time update the firmware. If you wait more then you will lose even more channels, as Nagra 2.5 is retired.

    Great! It looks like now you're really getting to the base of my problem. Please excuse my lack of knowledge in this field but I am not sure how virgin can help me with this. OK they have upgraded their system and new cards are being issued but I don't even use my virgin box! My virgin cable just goes into the back of my starview box and I'm done. I don't think a new card can help me right? So my question, how do I find a way around that upgrade by doing something to my starview and what can I do to it? I don't think virgin will be too happy if I tell them that my starview box has stopped working! ;)

    No wonder you were losing channels - your system is totally unsupported.



    Lets start with the fact that by contract you should be using only their receiver, and that the upgrade to Nagra 3 has been specifically implemented to cripple all the others (like yours). Next you should realize that your Starview box is old an not upgradable  to Nagra 3. Finally, even if by some miracle you would get your hands on a new firmware for it, it would be useless since the new cards, which you must replace if you still want to view Virgin, will simply refuse to work in any other box but their own.
    Replace the card, put it in your Virgin box and upgrade its firmware - that is all that can be done to fix that.

    My friend, I am not really sure if you are aware of the Starview box concept. You do not need a viewing card at all. All you need is the cable from a company like Virgin. You could be on their cheapest package but as soon as the cable is inserted at the back of starview, it decodes all channels. I have never even seen my Virgin card!!

     Starview (basically just another DM500-C clone customised for the Virgin network)) is a Linux based receiver in which you can add some cracked decoding keys to view coded channels for free. For it to work 2 things are needed: a coding engine loaded in firmware and a set of keys. Both work only if the broadcasting system is compatible with them. That is exactly my point: Nagra 3 has been introduces as to block all pirating done with cracked receivers like yours. Very soon all channels will be broadcasted only in Nagra 3 so if you don't switch to the original Virgin receiver and card you wont see even the channels you pay for.



    And don't expect a new set of keys very soon - unlike Nagra 2 (and it's versions) who has been cracked even before the commercial launch, Nagra 3 hasn't been cracked even after 2 years of use.

ye just go to installation and manual scan then auto scan make sure ntl is selected 1st, channels might be mixed up but sort mannualy ,a pain just takes a bit of time

Super usb problem


just press menu then 1668. not 0000. dont go to installation. just menu then immidiately 1668. it will come up enter to delete all channels. press ok. then it will go automatically to installation. then pick ur provider and then auto scan. when its done go back out all the way. press menu again and immidiately 1570. then turn emu back on. go to sky sports 1 and it should be back

Channels lost on starview box


Yeah i had the same problem with starview 4. i upgraded the firmware and still no good. i then by accident set the default key. it worked. i'm not sure if it will work for u.

Lost channels


What I did after loads of trial & error trying t follow peoples advice on here so not sure how much of it you need t do (Stage 2) might not be neccessary so try 1) followed by 3) & 4) first ;o) :-

1) Deleted all the channels & reset the factory settings to 0000.
Turned off the box at the plug, left for a couple of minutes & turned back on

2) I reinstalled the software at http://www.4shared.com/file/76886028/fd4ac296/GTRom_the_box_Super_8102e_081129.html?err=no-sess (Not sure if thats necessary but I did so try this if 3 & 4 dont work without reinstalling)

3) Turned on the Box & went into the menu pressed 1570 on main screen to get into the CAS SASTEM & turned the EMU key ON

4) Reinstalled the channels using Telewest (Even tho I'm with Virgin) & voila, it worked & I can get all the channels again ;o)

Hi, got mine working, lions are winning

sometimes channels change frequency so they dont work,have u tried a factory reset 0000 to delete,power off at back/on and autoscan ur provider,and emu to on,usually brings them back,do not scan thru splitters as u will lose channels.

Lost certain channels on Eurovox


run auto scan......please make sure you dont run power scan.....once scan is done you should get all the missing channels back.
