Question about ASUS K50IJ-C1 Notebook

1 Answer

Laptop woes... My Asus K501 is booting up with a picture of a broken glass, no cursor or anything. The broken glass image is a full screen pic, and it looks fairly low rez. It blocks the whole desktop, so I can't see or do anything. I can hear OS booting up, and when I put a music CD in the drive, it played the music just fine & the media function keys on the keyboard can control the songs being played; so, I know the system is running, and it's just the screen being blocked by the broken glass picture. If I use the external video hookup, then I can see the desktop, and it looks normal. I thought this may be some sort of virus, so I scanned the whole system twice & it came up clean. I even pulled the drive out of the laptop & scanned it using my desktop PC, and it also came up clean. When I put the drive back in the laptop, it still had the same problem. So, I pulled the drive & copied all the important files off to my other system, then I followed the MFG's instruction to reset this laptop to the original condition. After the reset, it's still booting up with the broken glass image. So, now I'm pissed off & out of idea... Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this, short to smashing it with a hammer?

1st you can boot at safe mode (F5), and reinstall video driver.
Or well you have a defective lcd, you must send to repair.

My asus notebook PC will not do anything but load up to asus logo screen and the cursor! What do I do??

It's likely that the disk-drive has failed, and Windows cannot be read from the disk-drive to "boot" the computer.
Take the computer (and power-adapter, if it is a laptop) to a qualified computer-repair place.

I hope that you have been making good "backup" file-sets.

It is looking for something to boot from. Remove any CD and USB drives. Then try physically reconnecting the drive. From there you will need to verify in BIOS.

Check first boot in BIOS as well.

Try turning down the brightness of the unit as much as possible. Other than that, you're not going to get much out of the battery. May have to buy another battery in the long run.

Asus k501 wont load says bootmgr missing

You would need to do a windows start up repair. Look up the F key needed to go into the factory restore manager should be F12 or F10 but when you 1st boot the pc up b4 or while in the ASUS splash screen look at the very bottom of screen it will tell you there which F key to hit.

There are some things you can do. If you didn't get restore cd's with unit, you can order them from Asus. If you got cd's then boot to it and restore the system to factory. If you don't want to order cd's then go to computer store and buy an xp cd and boot to it and wipe hard drive and install xp. If the system has lots of ram then just upgrade to windows 7. you can look online for password recovery but it will cost you money and sending them the info from your system.
