first off you need an xbox live subscription to use xbox live. Also I am assuming you have a broadband connection. So the best way is to purchase a router and then hook up your computers and xbox to that router via ethernet cable. Here are two links that should help you: http://www.wikihow.com/Hook-Up-Xbox-360-Live
If you are going wired, you need a an ethernet cable running from the back of your router to the back of your xbox.
If you want to go wireless, you need to buy a wireless router and a wireless networking adapter.
Plug all of it up and then scan for networks on your xbox dashboard, if you were successful in hooking it up, you should find your router and be able to connect....
I have a tip on my profile that you might find useful.
to get onto xbox live you need to pay (normally around £30 - £45) for 12 months of xbox live. They come on cards which you can buy at most supermarkets and games shops and are available in either 12 month ones or 3 month ones. Hope this helped
Did you get a router, the dsl modem it self wont do much good, you need a router so it can assign your xbox an IP address. You need to have a router hooked up to the DSL modem, and the xbox hooked up to the router.
