Yellow Tint over picture...

Samsung HCN4226W 42 in. Rear Projection - I have had this TV for 5-6 years now, and while under the 4 year repair contract, it was repaired twice with convergence issues where the picture was badly distorted, they told us they replaced a few chips on a board, I assume this is the convergence board that most have issues with here...

The current problem is that there is a yellow tint over the hole viewing area, like an old movie, I have no "white" color at all... The adjustments (ie: tint, color, brightness, sharpness) don't seem to do anything... All the convergence colors are aligned... perfect focus button comes up with a message after a few seconds "no sensor data"... I do have a slight curve along the left side of the screen (1"- 2" wide)... None of the preset color setting (ie: warm,cool,etc...) correct the issue... THANK YOU !...

Also, Is there a PDF type manual on this TV, to show what each of the adjustments service mode do... I did find a write up that gives me some help, but just not enough detail, I guess I could give it a try, and always use the reset to put it back... Still looking for an answer to my original post... Thanks Much !....

OK, I have some imgaes I will post up... the convergence looks to be fine, there are no real misaligned colors, just this yellow tint type problem... As I said earlier, there is not much difference in the adjustments (ie: tint, color, brightness, sharpness), I do get a slight difference in the brightness setting, and also in the contrast, but nothing else seems to effect the picture or helps correct the image... The images seem to show alot more yellow then it is to the eye, but it should give you an idea of what I am seeing... Thanks Again...

I know my 27" TUBE tv has a degause opion, but this is a projection TV and I don't believe it is the same... Thanks for the response...

  • bandi42 May 10, 2008

So the actual picture tubes (3 colors) are bad or worn out basically, and I am sure the cost of these make this not worth fixing I would assume and it's time to move on to a new TV ?... I thought I read that there were 2 chips on a board that go bad on this model, and I believe that was what the replaced the last 2 times it was serviced a few years ago... I know I am probally just reaching here... :(...

Tech person, depends on your meaning, I can pretty much fix anything or at least try, from building car engines to computers, and also can solder well, some board connections, wiring... Jack of all trades, master of none... But I am capable of it, if I know what needs to be done... So with this, I am weighing my options really...

As far as this Samsung, you feel it has reached it's life cycle and it's time to let er' go ?... I just did not want to put er' out to the curb, if it could be fixed simpley... Like I said, the picture is actually great, clear, and running at 1080i, but just has this issue...

    I appreciate your responses...

Do you have a speaker next to it? you need to de-gauls it try taking a magnet touch the screen and while you pull it a way from the screen slowly make a circular motion out wards and you should see the colors swirl keep doing this until it is clearer. This happens to tv and computer monitors all the time you can also check to see it their is a reset feature in your menu sometime this will degauss the screen for you. hope this helps.

Well..it's simple really...yellow is from a degrading video unit and system board..so, you'll find that it's high time for a major service situation.

hmmm...on the degaussing...most sensitive electronics and digital equipment is NOT happy with magnets around control circuitry..

as to the service manual, none to be found in online universe..

reaching is fine..but there is a life cycle to all higher end equipment..you could use it as a monitor, if the convergence/video signal issues are resolved..

are you a tech person, or usually call service folk in?

Samsung HCN2446W -- Yellow/Greenish tint all over screen

That model should be HCN4226W, right? Because the other don't come-up. Sounds like the mirror may have moved. It's mounted on the upper part of the back of the T.V. Should be flat against the back. Check that. Then see if all 3 tubes are lighting up. Also possable the fluid leaked out.....but not likely. These sets are fairly robust. Do you remember jarring it in the drive home?? Did you have it laying down when you moved it?
