Question about Samson G-TRACK USB RECORDING MICROPHONE Microphone

Open Question

I have a Samson G-Track microphone and am running Windows 7 and am getting static when I record. This is a recent problem and didn't happen a few weeks ago under Windows 7. To ensure it wasn't a hardware problem, I tested the microphone on another computer running Vista and it works perfectly-- without static. I haven't (knowingly) updated any drivers or changed anything about my system that I am aware of. Did Windows 7 recently "update" the driver without me knowing, and introduce a static bug when recording? That's all I can think of. I also noticed that when testing the microphone on another computer the volume setting on the microphone is WAY different on both systems (Vista and Win7) to achieve the same volume, like they are using very different drivers. I tried different recording software on Windows 7 and the same static problem occurs. So it is a drivers issue of some sort. What gives? Can someone help me?

SOURCE: samson

yeah that is quite interesting on what you got there but chances are i really think its the operating system since this is a plug and play device, what instrument are you actually connecting to it? are you using any adapters or is it a direct cable USB attachment from the device to your computer?

Samson g track windows 7

It works fine in Windows 7 except that there's a bug in Windows 7 that adds lots of noise to the mic. It's easy to work around, though: Go into Recording devices, Properties button, Levels tab, right click on the level number so that it shows in decibels, and then adjust the level to 0 dB. It's supposed to be at 0 dB but Windows 7 defaults it to 30 dB for no reason. This isn't a problem on Windows XP.

Can a Samson g track mic be used with the new iPad?

Yes, but the iPad doesn't supply enough power for the G Track to run headphones, so you will need to use a powered hub between the mic and the iPad.

Static Noise

Is it a hissing noise or a distorted crackling noise? If it's a hissing noise then it's due to a bug in Windows that adds 30 dB of gain. It's easy to work around, though: Go into Recording devices, Properties button, Levels tab, right click on the level number so that it shows in decibels, and then adjust the level to 0 dB. It's supposed to be at 0 dB but Windows 7 defaults it to 30 dB for no reason. This isn't a problem on Windows XP or OS X.

Recording quality just went downhill fast.

Make sure your computer audio is NOT set to "echo" as this will loop the audio back out. This setting can sometimes get set by whatever... it happens.

Many Problems with Samson G-Track or not?

Hi.  I dunno if yur using pc or mac but with a mac yu need to adjust the mic settings on the comp. For the static its probably your set up or as i said in another guys problem, the usb cable given with it is **** so try using another one from a printer or wtv to see if that makes a difference for you. Also if you are recording just through the mic i find that it seems to only work well when the input is on line and not inst/mic. Hope this can be of some help. Its a great piece of kit once you get it working well.. Goodluck

I recently purchased a samson g-track usb mic. when I use it with garage band on my imac - I get static. not always, only about 1 time in 10 recordings. I have to diconnect the mic, re-connect then it...

It appears to be a problem with USB and the clock sample rate of the mic.  You need to go into your Applications/Utilities folder to find your Audio MIDI Setup.  In there you can choose the device for input and manually set the sample rate (usually 44.1K or 48K).  Keep that window open while you record, and you'll find that the mic will reset itself to another sample rate on its own... don't know why, and Samson's support is pretty non-existent, so I can't get any answers from them.  If you simply reset the sample rate in the Mac's Audio MIDI Setup utility the problem will clear itself up.  But, with Garage Band, you'll then get a very bad latency issue that will force you to restart Garage Band to reestablish a near-zero latency.  It's annoying, but it does work.  (In Soundtrack Pro I can reset it without having to restart the application.)

No recording?

The static after several seconds seems like this is a problem with certain versions of OS X. You might be able to fix it by downgrading or upgrading. Apple Forums say that it's fixed in 10.5.6.

You can double check that this is the problem by trying it on a Windows computer.
