Question about KitchenAid KGSC308LSS Gas Kitchen Range

1 Answer

I have a KitchenAid gas range model KGSC308LSSO purchased in 2003. Today we had an oven failure: oven doesn't ignite but all control panel indicators are normal. No error codes have shown up. Glow bar igniters seem to be working (orange glow). Surface burners work normally. Control lock is not set. No timed cooking is set. No Sabbath Mode is set (doesn't seem to have this feature). What now?

    This sounds right.
I have read that some ranges have gas flow regulators with settable (re-settable?) valves/switches on them - that I might try with my own thumb or other useful tool. Is this an option I should look into?
Otherwise I will have someone come inspect and / or replace this part.

Control panel works, no error code, fan runs but oven won't heat? Can't find pilot light info in manual. kgrc608

there is no pilot light on this model. It could be the bake igniter. May also be the control board. I would go with the igniter since they fail more often (even if glowing) than any other component.

Why won't the burner in my Kitchenaid gas oven stay lit?

Fro memory these have the igniter pack at the rear of the oven once you get the cooker out it's pretty easy to remove & replace it. If you are unsure ring the manufacturers service division they are usually happy to help.

Igniter electrode does not light burner

As the igniters age from repeated use, they can become weak and no longer function properly. Just because they glow or spark, does not necessarily mean they are good. If you are experiencing ignition problems, the following link explains a little theory about how these igniters work and how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3575727-replacing_an_oven_igniter_on_a_gas_range

The burner manifolds in the oven each use a glow bar or electrode type igniter with a gas safety valve to ignite. Both oven manifolds are controlled by the Electronic Oven Control (EOC) board, which is your clock/timer on the control panel. If the surface burners work, but the oven does not, the problem is usually not a gas related issue. If the broiler is still working, more than likely, this is not a control board issue. Check the igniter connections to ensure you don't have any broken wires, first. Make sure you UNPLUG the range before servicing.

Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

Prices vary between these sites, so shop and compare. The first three sites listed also offer helpful exploded view diagrams to help you locate and properly identify the parts you need. If the model number you have listred is correct, the bake burner igniter part number is 8191123.

If you have any questions please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

I'm looking at a KitchenAide KDDT207B duel-fuel used stove to purchase used from a private party I don't know. Are there reliability concerns?

I have this same oven. It began to intermittently fail when using the oven. The error code suggested it was a problem with the keypad. I suspected it was because the electronics was overheating. The electronics for this model is approximately underneath the right front gas top range. What I found was that the failure occured when both the oven and the right front gas range were being used simultaneously. This caused overheating since the electronics has not fan in this model and the heat radiating down from the pan above the gas range is added to the heat coming from the oven below. The electronics is sandwiched between these two heat sources.

Oven/Broiler Igniters for KitchenAid range KGST307

Oven bake ignites usually have lifetime 5-7 years. If igniter glows but gas not came in - replace igniter. Same with broil igniter.

Dual fuel kitchenaid; burners work, oven does not

I had a similar problem. There's a thermostat before the control panel. You need to remove the knobs and the front panel to get to it. You'll also need to remove a couple of trim pieces to keep from bending the panel. The part number is Whirlpool W10017820, sells for about $40.
