I found someone who is able to repair the adapter. I came real close to just chunking the thing, but someone from this board, I think, told me about him. I emailed it to him and within the week he'd fixed it. Below is his name and email address:

SOURCE: LCD TV flickers non-stop
More likely to be bad LCD controller, see sample here: notes: I removed the cover from the board. http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/LTV-32W3HD/
Parts: there are more than one version of the board, http://www.shopjimmy.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?q=LTV-32W3HD&stock=all
Be careful when remove the back cover! the switch assembly is attached to the back panel, do not yank too kard to remove the back.

the pic attached is an electrolytic capacitor, they come in different sizes and are usually blue, black and sometimes yellow. depending on manufacture.
most of the problems I have heard of tvs having problems with the electrolytic capacitors going bad. if you open the tv and see one of those swollen or leaking you need to replace them.
