Cant get the radio to hold memory - Kenwood KDC-135 CD Player

TO PROGRAM THE MEMORY BUTTONS
Ten FM and five AM radio stations may be independently set. After programming the buttons,
pressing 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 will instantly change the frequency to the preset station.
1. Turn power on.
2. Set the radio to desired station (see Tune or Seek Function).
3. Press and hold one of the desired memory buttons (F). The station setting begins flashing in
the LCD display (G). Continue to hold the button down until the flashing stops. The memory
button is now set.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to set the other memory buttons.

Your radio/charger is equipped with memory capacity in order to store the time and your selected memory channels. When the radio is in the OFF position, this memory capacity is powered by two (2) AA batteries.
Please check these and replace all both pieces if they would be weak.

Hi.

You have a digital display pioneer receiver and you would like to know how to store radio stations.

• first tune your radio to your selected radio station
  
• next see if the receiver has a button marked memory, and it should have buttons marked 1 2 3 4 5 6 etc
  
• After you have tuned in to your selected radio station, if it has a button marked memory,
• Press the memory button, then press and hold 1 for a few seconds and that should store your selected radio station to preset 1
• Next, tune in to another radio station and store it by pressing memory then 2 and that should store it in location 2.
• 
  
• If your Receiver doesn't have a button labelled memory, and simply has the store 1-6 etc buttons then ,
• Tune in to your radio station , then press and hold 1 for a few seconds, it will probably flash a few times until its stored in that location 1
• 
  
• Next, tune in to another radio station, then press and hold 2 and that should store it in location 2.
• repeat.

If your radio will not hold memory then you are lacking a constant 12 volt power source. Check the yellow and red wires at the radio. The yellow wire should be connected to a constant 12 volt power source (battery) and the red wire should be connected to a switch 12 volt power source (accessory or ignition).

you need to have the yellow wire going to a constant power source for the radio to retain memory when the key is off.

its under the hood on drivers side

this is how i preset my stations, im not sure if you have done this before.
fm can save 20 stations and am can save 12

1] chose your desired station
2] press & hold the play/memory button until P01 pops up and flashes
3] to save the station, press & hold the play/memory button

if you'd like to save another station, then repeat steps 1 & 2,
then press the play/memory button again until P02 pops up,
repeat step 3.
to listen to your preset station, all you have to do is press the play/memory button.

If it is an aftermarket radio then that means that the constant power wire is not connected. It has to be connected in order to keep the memory of the stations. If that does not work then contact me back and there might be a couple other things. I hope this works for you.

Buy a cheap 12 volt tester pen from Radio Shack, and make sure your constant(yellow) always has power no matter  what position your ignition is and your accessory(red) only has power when the ignition is turned on. Some time those after market adapters are wrong(they are after market for a reason).
