Tried to install AVG 8 but "Local machine:installation failed

Installation Error: Action failed for file avgwdsvc.exe: starting service... Error 0x800736b1

    C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgui.exe

This application has failled to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem. But it didn't.

Tried to uninstall AVG 7 but it said installation failure.

Even restored the computer to start again but to no avail.

    Running Windows XP on laptop.

We had no trouble with the main PC.

    Hope someone can help please.

Change the name of the destination directory ( ex: C:\Program Files\Yahoo2 ) ...it works for me.
First reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable from here:

Uninstalling and reinstalling normally works. Do you use a regcleaning program at all. would recommend you do as the good ones (Uniblue suite, Regcure, Regmechanic) clean up your registry and removes invalid reg files. So b4 reinstalling AVG try a recleaner first, then re-install. Also try googling your error number as you are not alone with this prob.
Sorry I cant be anymore help.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Desktop has serious problems with no antivirus program installed. Am trying to install AVG free 8.0, and keep getting Error: Action failed for file avgwdsvc.exe: starting service... Error 0x800736b1...

Try avast av go to avast.com and download the free version. It's very good. You need to sign up with an email address they will send you a key to copy and paste and it will be good for 14 months then you will need a new key. I've used it for years for free.

I bought a new HP 2133 mini note pc which has Windows Vista on it. I have been trying to download the avgfree 8.0 antivirus program. It keeps telling me that one error is occuring. It says Action failed...

Try this link to download it...

http://free.avg.com/ww.download?prd=afe

This maybe the same link you have already tried. If it is, just do a google search for AVG free, it's available from several other places.

You also need to download a patch for Vista and AVG to work together, if you go to this link ...

http://www.avg.co.uk/uk.faq.num-1066#faq_1066

You can download the patch from microsoft via AVG website, you need to select FAQ number 1177 then choose the download according to your OS ie 32bit or 64bit.

Hope this helps.
