The platen is easily replaced. We can sell you one for 35.00 plus shipping but we must know the length of the black roll they are not all the same.

I have an IBM Wheelwriter 15 Series II and the ribbon needed replaced so we replaced it, now when you try to top it just types the top half of the letters??????

Make sure both tabs on the rear of the cartridge are in their respective slots. If that does not work, try pushing down on the black platen roller on both ends. If one side is not locked in place, you will get half letters.

IWhen i turned it on it only types half the letters/numbers etc

It sounds like the Platen roller has popped up out of place on one side. Try pushing down on the black rubber roller (platen roller) on both ends. It is held in place by two black plastic clips that are attached to the roller ends and one of them may be broken. But usually it has just popped up on one side and pushing it down usually solves this problem.

A mailing label is stuck to the paten. How can I get it off? It's stuck behind the ribbon. I've been using tweezers to get it off, but just comes off in little pieces. I can't turn it on because it...

On both ends of the platen are black latches squeeze them together and pull the platen out. Now you can clean the debris out of that area. If you remove the silver paper tray note how it is installed for replacement. Re-insert the platen be sure to line up the latches with the side frames and push down firmly to snap into place.

My Lexmark Wheelwriter 1500 Typewriter is only showing half (the uper half) of the typed letter or num etc

Try pushing down on both ends of the black platen roller. Sometimes one of the black clips on the end of the roller can break causing one end of the roller to lift up, giving half letters. The clip on the right side can be replaced but the left side clip can not so roller would have to be replaced.

The platen (roller) is not fully seated in the side frames check to be sure the latches are lined up then press firmly on both ends of the platen it should snap into place.

IBM Wheelwriter 3 squeaks.

The squeaking is caused by lack of lubrication on the Platen (roller) bearings..the feed rolls that grip the platen or the linespace mechanism. Have to be careful on too much oil..I just put a drop on a corner of a piece of paper and touch what you want to oil..it will **** the oil right off the paper. a light oil like gun or sewing machine oil.
Hope this helps

Paper not advance

THE ROLLERS MAYBE DRYED OUT AND THEY NEED TO BE RECONDITIONED, OR NEW RUBBER PUT ON THE ROLLERS.
THERE IS A WAY TO TURN THEM DOWN YOUR SELF BUT YOU COULD ALSO MESS THE EVENINGNESS OF THE ROLLER, A SHOP THAT WORKS ON PRINTING PRESSES MAYBE ABLE TO HELP YOU OR IBM SERVICE CENTER MAY HAVE SOME OTHER IDEAS OR DO THEY EVEN MAKE PARTS FOR THAT PEACE OF EQUIPMENT.

ONLY TYPES TOP PART OF THE LETTER IBM WHEELWRITER 30 SERIES II

The most common problem is the platen (black roller) gets out of position. Be sure the black latches are aligned wuth the side frames then push down firmly on the ends of the platen it should snap into place.
