Question about Panasonic TH-42PX60U Television

2 Answers

I've had a problem with my Panasonic TH-42PX60U for about a week now. While the TV was on, half of the screen just disappeared. 1/4 of it is all white, 1/4 of it is black with one multicolored line, the other 1/2 of the screen is fine. It's about 3 years old (S/N MD62830490) and was wall mounted before the problem occurred.

Here is a picture of what's going on:http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4116/4862...http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4096/4863...

Failing a solution that I can do myself, if you can recommend a reliable repair shop in Chicago for Plasma TV's that would help as well.

The first expert only provided links that I could have come up with through a simple google search - no actual expertise or insight into the problem....

Here's what the screen looks like. Any ideas?

You have a faulty Logic control board. I have seen this problem too many times. The replacement board should cost you around 150$ and you should be able to do it yourself provided you have prior knowledge in handling electronic repairs. I can find you the replacement part if you want to do it yourself.

Panasonic TH-42PX60U 42"Plasma TV has left side of screen with no picture with large black and white vertical lines. Purchased in 2006, can it be fixed and how much?

Try disconnecting all of your source devices from the TV and see if the line still appears. If the line disappears, the issue may be caused by your source device or your cables.

PANASONIC TH-42PX60U 42 - half of screen not working

I had the same issue. I am going to replace my scan buffer boards. The upper half of mine works but the lower half is black so I would replace the lower Scan buffer board but in case of future issues I have ordered both upper and lower for $44.
The scan buffer boards are fairly simple to locate. Open up back of tv there are two biffer boards identical. The item or product code on them contain letters either SU or SD (Scan up and Scan down)Look up tv parts and item code you will find a place to order or just get the 1 800 number from tv manufacturer.

TH-42PX60U wont turn on. Blinks 10 times. replaced the power supply board, but the same issue.

What I'm learning is there are several models of Panasonic TV's that have a video card that doesn't play well with HDMI applications and the end result is, you need to call this number and not only make arrangements to replace the bad board, but also this!
Your model doesn't show below, but I'd certinly inquire about the necessity of a "Firmware" update!,,,Panasonic knows FULL WELL they have a HUGE problem here!
Hope this helps!

At panasonic.ca I found the listing for the fw update under customer support-important notices

Right half of screen black with thin blue line top to bottom about another line inch over another thin line starting blue then red getting thiner to bottom

This is a very common problem with this Panasonic set where half the right side is bad and the other half is good. This has been traced to a general plasma panel defect in the manufacturing precess. The panel lasts only about 1.5 years and they go bad. The only solution is to replace the plasma panel. The charges for the cost and labor will double the original prize of the TV set.Good luck.

Panasonic TH-42PX60U plasma TV: red blinking light

are you using a PC to feed a signal or maybe a cable with an adapter?
I had the same issue when I used one of the rear HDMI ports to show a PC display. Apparently there is a software difference between the rear and side/front ports. Inputting the PC through the side HDMI port has solved the problem for me (so far!)

TH-42PX60U red light blinks 10 times wont come on

On a Panasonic TV the 10-blink error code can sometimes be caused by low voltage running through an HDMI cable, particularly from a Media PC or some video game consoles. Try disconnecting any HDMI cables and unplugging the Television for 30 seconds, then power it on without the cables attached.

If this works, connect the cables to the front panel (usually HDMI-3) which uses a different controller board.
