Gas flame burning yellow?

Does your grill or pool heater have a yellow flame instead of blue? If your propane tank is not just about to run empty, then you can probably thank little spiders.
When a gas burning appliance sits idle for a week or more outdoors, spiders like to build nests in the venturi tubes (that's the tube with the holes in it where the combustion air gets sucked in). This changes the way the combustion air mixes with the gas and causes the gas to not burn completely. The incomplete combustion is not very hot, and so the flame appears yellow. This is not efficient. It wastes gas, is too cool for grilling steak and creates soot residues. This is very common on gas grills (bottled propane or piped natural gas). It also happens to pool heaters.
Fortunately, the fix is easy, and you usually don't need to take anything apart. Get a piece of stiff nylon string from a weed-wacker, about 12 inches long. With the burner cool, push the string into any hole in the venturi tube and spin it by rolling it between your fingers. The spider nests are sticky (made from the same stuff as spider webs) and they usually adhere to the nylon string.
Not sure what the venture tube is? It's going to be between the valve and the burner. The valve shoots a stream of gas into the venture tube through a pinhole nozzle called an "orifice". You can do a Google image search for BURNER VENTURI TUBE to see lots of different types. Every gas burning appliance uses some form of venturi tube.
Good luck. Al K

I had my charbroil grill for 2 yrs and I now when I turn on the propane tank and ignite, I hear hissing followed by it lighting then flames proceed to come out the front middle burners. Do I need a new...

Before buying anything, look into the burners for spider webs. The webs block gas from getting to the burner and will fire back. This is dangerous. Look carefully where the gas nozzle enters the burner tube.

Can not light gas grill - Weber 8006 Have done all suggested thing such as full tank of gas, regulator checked, check for spider webs. No gas seems to be reaching burners.

This grill is definitely worth fixing. I have had similar problems with several weber 8006 grills. It is usually something obstructing or diluting the flow of fuel. If you have a new tank and your igniter is working (you have tried using a propane hand-held lighter, I assume) then it seems that it must be either the hose/gas line or the burner tubes. I would first check the main tubes and cross tube carefully for places that are rusted through. Holes can lower the pressure in the tubes and make them difficult to light (try just turning on and lighting the front burner). I would then clean the tubes at the spider trap/air vent end, which is nearest the propane tank. The spider traps, if you have them, are little plastic cages and the edges snap together. You can use a vacuum to gently clean out the tubes. If this does not work, you can buy or borrow a similar, but working hose. As they say, "it is always the last thing you try that fixes the problem".

You'll need to remove the burners and make certain there's no debis blocking the holes. Dirt, rust and spider webs are common obstruction and need to be cleared away. Also make sure gas feed tube is firmly seated to burner.

Bunners do not get hot

Barbecue Repair Parts Don't let spiders crawl into your venturis, yearly maintenance part are available. 27897.jpg?qlt=80&cell=325,325&cvt=jpeg If you notice that your Barbecue is getting hard to light or that the flame isn't as strong as it should be, take the time to check and clean the VENTURIS. 27898.jpg?qlt=80&cell=325,325&cvt=jpeg In some areas of the country, spiders or small inserts have been known to create "flashback" problems. The spiders spin webs, build nests, and lay eggs in the BARBECUE VENTURI TUBE (s)obstructing the flow of gas to the BURNER. The backed-up gas can ignite in the venturis behind the control panel. This is known as a flashback, and it can damage your Barbecue and even cause injury. To prevent flashbacks and ensure good performance the BARBECUE BURNER and VENTURI assembly should be removed from the grill and cleaned before use whenever the BARBECUE has been idle for an extended period of time.

Hope this helps!

Cant get the burners to stay lite.

Spiders like to create little hidey webs in the tubes of propane grills and stoves.

Take it apart as much as you can and blow compressed air through all of the holes and apertures. You can either take it to the gas station and us the $.25 air machine or buy a can of compressed air at your computer store.
