Question about Computer Monitors

Samtron 73v white screen

Just obtained secondhand the above monitor. Worked when I first plugged in. Daughter was playing a game and within half an hour, screen flickered blue colours then went completely white. Have tried different cables and on other PCs but still the same.
Must be recognising something as when I try resetting display modes on my laptop using the monitor as a second display, it goes blank as it changes then back to white again.
So basically when switching on, all I get is a white lit screen.
If I unplug VGA cable from PC, screen again goes black for a second or two then white again. Green LED is normally solid but does flash after a while if no activity so believe power save mode is kicking in.

Can any body help, please?

Thanks skotkolr. Did take unit apart yesterday to see if any burnt out resistors, diodes, caps etc but nothing obvious.

Is it possible that the game that was being played has put the monitor into an mode it cannot reset from. If so,is there a way to factory default the monitor without being able to see the OSD menu ?

Left for a few days and tried again this morning. It worked again. So you are saying bad vga board. Is there anything I should look for to replace or would it mean new board. Guess if thats the case, prob end up throwing it away.

Asus VS247H-P is flashing between red, green, blue, black, and white. Occasionally the screen will flicker back to the desktop but then goes back to the RGB/BW loop.

This make of monitor is v. strange - refuses to work in non optimum modes etc. I'd get another 2nd hand one... I work in IT and have no end of issues with this model.

You need to have some one open the flat panel up and check the capacitors on the vga/ inverter card and see if they are domed shaped if so then you have blown capacitors and they are not a difficult fix but pricey as the electronics guys don't come cheap

there is no factory default like you are thinking of. the default is to receive input from vga or dvi my next guess would be , based on your info 9changed cables etc)bad vga board , try letting the monitor sit for 2-3 days then plug in and see if it works, if so then the vga board is likely bad.
btw capacitors are completely flat if any show sign of doming or color leaking through the creases they are blown

sorry for the wait I have been busy with my daughter.
the capacitors are not readily obvious to the untrained eye. if a cap is blown it will appear on the top like a little dome, or there will be color leaking from the creases in the top silver parts. you can do a search for blown capacitor image online

This is just a motherboard with obvious blown caps both domed and color leaking. looking at a cap from the side i will on the top be absolutly flat not dome at all if its domed its blown.

Samtron (a former subsidiary of Samsung) as an entity no longer exists, and I have been unable to find any legitimate links to archived support documentation.

The symptoms you describe indicate that the monitor has failed. One way to verify this is to connect another, known good monitor to the same output on your computer. If that other monitor works, then yours does not and it is not the computer's output that is bad.

Looks like time for a new monitor.

Hope that's helpful.

Monitor Samtron after 10min. looses contact with computer

This problem is caused by the Novatek chip on the video board. Soldering a 50 Ohm Resistor across pins 5 and 6 of this chip resolves the problem on both the Samtron and the Samsung monitors. I have just corrected one of these last night by this means.
Hope that helps
