I have a Thorens TD 145 that doesn't mute on turn off or arm up. I have an AT 440ML cartridge. If you tap the headshell when the arm is at rest it causes a lot of noise.

A muting circuit would require some electronics, which would be easily spotted by removing the base of the deck and looking inside. Looking at the age of this deck I would doubt it had any muting circuit at all. Noise like you suggest, could be caused by a poor connection to the cartridge, or a faulty cartridge, or a bad earth link. Another cause could be faulty cables. Or even a faulty magnetic cartridge pre-amp inside your main amp. This fault would only effect the turntable, as the deck is the only thing that uses the pre-amp.

Tractor cuts uneven, how do I correct it?.

make sure the blades are not bent , and stay the same hieight while rotating , ( do this while engine is stopped and plug disconnected your will have to physically look underneath - ie use a block and tackle to lift front end while you look physically turn them and try to make them move up and down / sideways and look for any un eveness in blade tracking

make sure the mandrell housing bearings are ok not loose

if mandrells brgs or spindles are bent they will need replacing

make spindles are not bent ?

make sure tyre pressures are 15 psi fr and 10 psi rear
make sure the the distance from floor to btm edge of r/h side of deck is the same as the l/h side adjust one or other until you have same measurement use tape measure ( this is side to side level )

then make sure you have rear edge of deck at the mid point about 5 mm higher than the front edge ( this is the rake ), adjust using the front draft arms or front lift link

make sure deck lifts evenly , you should see arms or lift links that connect to deck on l/h and r/h sides and at the front these will have some form of adjustment so deck can be levelled and rake set

if need let me know make and model and year and deck size of machine and i will try help further

cheers paul

What causes JD 260 riding mower to start dying when you engage the mower deck? It runs fine when you disengage the mower deck.

It's the safety system that causes this. There is a switch under the seat that should activate when you are sitting in the seat. The switch can come loose or fail, the mounting can break, or the wires can come loose - any of these would cause the "engine dies when I engage the mower deck" behavior. Lift the seat, examine the switch. Rmove the switch and keep the plunger in with a piece of tape. Fixed? Then it's just the mounting or adjustment. Not fixed? It's the switch itself or the wires or connectors to it.

I have exact same problem with my 1989 built LT-12 White tractor ! I Discovered that the Right side connecting Link #14802A,that connects the lift handle shaft #17154A with the Stabalizer bar #16465A, was broken where it connects with the Deck Lift handle shaft.

Mounting a mower deck

position it under the mower then lift the rear end first and fit the link eyes through the deck mount holes. Then go to the front and lift the deck up to the link eyes, making sure the belt is on the correct side of each one. Fit the retaining clips to each link eye. Hook the tension spring through the hole at the back of the deck then go to the rear of the machine and pull the spring back and hook it onto the bracket under the axle. I use a fencing wire hook and a pair of vise grips to make this task easier. Then fit the deck belt onto the deck pulleys and finally run the belt around the motor pulley using the blades to turn it over. Refit the pulley guards and you should be in business

I have a 25 horse Craftsman. Link lift that raises the deck keep breaking

the deck is connected to the tractor in three spots. The link that breaks repeatedly does so because the opposing link is frozen up. Replace both links and you will be back in operation.

Lift links

I imagine the lift links to be a piece of steel with a couple holes in them. Ask a local welding service to make your lift links. Typically you will not find part numbers for a part so eazily reproduced.
