Sounds like a electro clutch engage type system

maybe your electro-clutch engage switch is faulty or a wire is connected the wrong way

was the clutch replaced recenlty and was is compatiable ?

or maybe you have a faulty clutch to test try

remove plug lead from plug

disconnect wires @pto clutch and apply 12 volt directly to clutch then remove voltage - if clutch engages then disengages the clutch is good it should click on then off if it does then its a switch fault
replace pto switch

cheers paul

hope its helps

My Clutch clicks (thunks is more like it) when I cycle the PTO switch, but it does not disengage. And the mower 'thinks' the blades have stopped, as it still starts, and does not shut off when the 'driver not on seat' switch is activated. How can I break the clutch free - of course it worked fine just prior to this problem surfacing this AM.

Dave, Remove plug wire, raise mower, or tilt on it's side to access blade. Remove center bolt holding blade on, noting the position so as not to install new blade upside down. Install new blade correctly and tighten blade bolt tight. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Husqvarna instructions

On ZTRs you raise the whole front of the mower including the deck. To prevent the blades from while loosing and tightening you use a wooden block between the blade tip and the mower deck.
When retightening the blade torque the blade bolt to 45-55 ft/lbs (60-75 Nm).

2000 craftman lawn tractor 917.270822 blades will not engage

If your blades won't engage when you raise the lever to engage them AND that lever moves freely without the normally expected resistance, then you've lost the cotter pin that connects the lever rod to the mower deck assembly. Very easy fix! Using the mower deck raise/lower lever, lower the mower deck to "down" position. Now, lay on your side along the right side of the mower and look up (use a flashlight) under the mower at the top of the mower deck while moving the blade engagement lever "up" (which pushes the connected rod down). At the end of the rod, you will see a hole where the mower deck and rod connect. Align the hole at the end of the rod with the matching "pin" on the mower deck (you'll see it) and insert a new cotter pin to secure them together. Use a nail if you don't have a cotter pin. Voila! you are done. The blade engagement lever will now engage/disengage your mower blades successfully. Just remember that mower deck must be down, or lowered, before you engage the blades!

I cannot get my mower to start tried everyting

Don't get excited. May be just an over looked something. Have you checked the safety switches or the wires running to the safety switches for shorts? Did you leave the blades engauged? I'm sure you have gas in the tank. Did you check the fuel shutoff. Is the spark plug wire on. (been there, done that) Do you have spark? If you can get me some info about what you have done to the machine, maybe I can help more. Till then try some of the no-cost ideas above. Good luck!!!
