Well YES usually, either that or the Lamp Voltage Driver isn't working, or the actual High Voltage "Starter" isn't functioning...
But the lamp itself is a safe bet.

Tips for a great answer:
i actually own this tv myself... that striking you here will only occur when the lamp does not fire. as far as lamp life i have found that mitsubishi has the longest lasting bulbs from my experience. i would check to make sure the connector on the lamp is seated properly into the other connector in the tv. if you know your lamp is 100% i would look at replacing the lamp ballast. ive had this tv for a few yrs now and love it.
