The heater element or defrost thermostat has probably gone bad. Remove the service panel and look for icefreezer back wall covered with - 8faffd3.jpgSee the heater? Looks like it is bad. Attached to it is a defrost thermodisc. When the defrost thermostat (terminator) 7953294.jpg gets to 50f it shuts off power to the heater. So check those. If both turn out to be ok then you probably have a bad adc board. Manuals are HERE

The back wall of your freezer covered with snow? If it is I would suggest you replace the heater and a thermistor - Heater: WR51X10101 Thermistor: WR55X10025. If no snow then it is probably the main pcb: WR55X10656

I have a kenmore refridgerator side by side. The freezer is beginning to have snow buildup (it is a self defrost) the refridgerator side is not cold

That snow is the condensate build up on the evaporator coils behind the rear panel of your freezer. Normally the freezer will go into defrost about every 10 hours and this snow will melt and drain out the defrost condensate line below the evaporator and go to a pan under your refrigerator and return back to the air inside your home. I believe your freezer is missing the defrost cycle either because the controls for the defrost are defective or the defrost heater and defrost thermostat is defective. I would be watching for an increase in refrigerator temperatures soon, due to loss of defrost. We will need to unplug and examine the evaporator coils behind the rear wall of the freezer. If frozen or covered with snow then defrost with a hair dryer and lets check the defrost heater and all its related components. Could you find a model number like 321.256489 for example then I can find the parts to look for. Sea Breeze

Check for snow on the back wall of the freezer compartment, Air to cool the refrigerator is supplied from the freezer section. If the coil is frozen over the air circulation becomes retarded and the refrigerator suffers. Snow on the back wall indicates a defrost problem.

Freezer has layer of frost on back wall - refrigerator not working

Defrost circuit problem, the snow means that your freezer coil is not being automatically defrosted. This could be a problem with the defrost heaters or defrost timer. Also in the newer models a module
controls this operation. Call for service. Removing ice or snow from the back wall is not the solution. The coil behind the back wall is also frozen and no air is circulating.
