I have 2 problems. 1 The battery light continually flashes orange and blue - gives notation battery is at 74% consider relapcing your battery. The light flashes when disconnected from power souce and has been shut down. If I did replace battery what would be the cost? Could I do it by myself? Would this solve them, problem or would I be throwing good money after bad. The battery has not had a lot of use, the laptop is usually connected to power. 2 Problem 2 is that the cursor continually changes position when typing. It will jump to anywhere there is previous text written. There does not appear to be any pattern to where it will appear nor if after several words or only one. This matter seemed to appear at the same time as the problem with the battery. Possibly!

The battery is failing, that is the indication the LEDs indicate. Batteries are Roughly $150 and cab be bought from Dell or 3rd Party battery vendors (Search Google for Inspiron 1720 battery)
The touchpad issue can likely be resolved by downloading and installing the latest touchpad driver http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R165804&SystemID=INS_PNT_PM_1720&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=14029&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=2&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=0&libid=17&typeid=-1&dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=223709
and then adjusting the settings in the touchpad properties and enable Touchcheck and set the slider all the way to the left.

Orange light flashing, no chargine

A replacement battery must be the EXACT same power spec as the original in DC volts and Milliamps, or you could damage the Mobo components. Some aftermarket batteries do not work well. The connections may be different.

For further help please check Dell Inspiron 1525 Manual. Also confirm if the light on the charger stays on,when connected to the system.

Battery light flashes blue once, orange once. Manual says battery overheated and let it cool. Been cooling for 3 1/2 hrs unplugged from anything and still nothing. No power..and blinking blue to orange...

With battery in, boot to the BIOS, check indications under battery health. I'm pretty sure it will indicate battery decline/failure which will mean, replace the battery.

Battery icon flashing orange

Sorry to here about your problem with the orange flashing light.
1st. You really are not giving enough information to identify your problem.
2nd. If your battery is charging when unit is turned off and you can see a blue charging light on the front left panel, that's good but should only charge for 1 or 1 1/2 hrs. max.
3rd. If your charger is getting to hot to hold while attempting to charge the battery, you may have a bad battery.
4th. If the orange light disappears after removing the battery and replacing it with a known good battery, its the battery.
This unit is an HP and HP has a recall on many battey's. ( I have worked on al least 25 HP Laptops and in two years have not found a battery to return under recall ) Thanks, HP !!!

All and All, it sounds like the battery is NFG.
Drop me a email or reply here as to what you have found.

Problem on a canon 3100

The Power Light Flashes Orange - Error Codes When an error occurs, the power light flashes orange. The number of orange flashes followed by a long green flash indicates the cause of the problem.
Two orange flashes: Out of paper, paper jam, or paper feed error
If no paper is loaded in the auto sheet feeder, or if the paper is not loaded correctly, set the paper correctly and press the Resume button on the printer to continue printing.
Three orange flashes: Paper jam
If paper has jammed in the printer, carefully remove the jam and press the Resume button to continue printing.
Four orange flashes: A tank inside the BJ cartridge (print head) is out of ink
Replace the empty BJ tank and press the Resume button to continue printing.
Five orange flashes: BJ cartridge is not installed properly
Remove and reseat the cartridge correctly. Make sure the orange protective cap and tape have been removed. Make sure the blue locking lever is locked down securely.
Six orange flashes: BJ cartridge (printhead) is not installed
Remove and reseat the cartridge correctly. Make sure the orange protective cap and tape have been removed. Make sure the blue locking lever is locked down securely.
Seven orange flashes: BJ cartridge (printhead) is defective
Remove the BJ cartridge and check that the contacts on the cartridge and cartridge holder are clean. Make sure the orange protective cap and tape have been removed and reinstall the cartridge. If the error occurs again after you resume operation, you may need to replace the BJ cartridge.
Eight orange flashes: Waste ink absorber almost full
The printer has a built-in waste ink absorber to hold the ink that is consumed during print head cleaning. This error indicates that the waste ink absorber is nearly full. Press the Resume button to skip the error so you can continue printing.
The POWER light flashes orange and green alternately: Service error
A service error means the printer requires the attention of a qualified technician. Count the number of flashes. (You may be asked this information.)
