Question about Exceed-RC Toys

1 Answer

My son has a Forza 4wd nitro car. The problem is no fuel getting to the carb. Has good compression. Has full tank with no fuel line blockage. Am able to remove fuel line from carb, blow into it and the air bubbles in the tank. Car was running fine then stopped. Not sure what causes the fuel to draw from the tank to the carb. Pleas advise. Thanks

The piston movement draws the fuel into the engine. Is this a new RC? Are you running this RC in the high temps the US has been having lately?

MTD 242-641-000 will crank but not run. I spray engine start and it will run for a few seconds

The problem is FUEL STARVATION [no fuel getting to the combustion chamber (cylinder)] which could be caused by one or more of several things:
  • NO fuel in the tank,
  • blockage of the fuel line from the tank to the carburetor [carb],
  • blockage of the fuel filter [if so equipped],
  • a "GUMMED-UP" carb is one of the most common causes IF the engine was allowed to just SIT idle without running over the winter season, OR
  • without EMPTYING ALL FUEL from the tank and running the engine dry" [until it stops which means all fuel has been removed from the tank, the fuel lines, filter, AND the CARB.].
The fact that the engine runs when "engine start," or even a small amount of gasoline, is sprayed into the carb throat allows the engine to run momentarily PROVES that fuel IS NOT getting THROUGH the carb!

Gasoline has a BAD tendency to evaporate over LONG STORAGE intervals, AND LEAVE A RESIDUE called "GUM," and some call it varnish.

Regardless of name, the gum or varnish solidifies in all of the extremely TINY passages [called GALLERIES] in the carb and thus even a full tank of fresh fuel cannot get through the carb to the engine!!!!!.

The "fix" for this is removal of the carb from the engine, for a complete overhaul:
  • Full dis-assembly of the carb,
  • proper soaking of the carb in CARB CLEANER [available at most auto parts stores],
  • and reassembly of the carb USING a NEW "overhaul gasket kit."
The other option is to REPLACE the gummed-up carb with a new one!!!!!

AND, IN THE FUTURE, DO NOT STORE the mower for long periods WITHOUT FIRST draining ALL fuel from the thank, AND THEN starting the mower with the fuel remaining in the carb, and allowing it to run UNTIL it quits.

This means that there is no fuel left in the system to gum it up!!!!!

1979 holiday rv chevy 454 no fuel to carb i replaced fuel pump filters fill carb with gas engin runs then no fuel to carb

if it has been sitting for a long time you may have to dis-connect the fuel lines at both the tank and the pump and blow air through to see if there is a blockage in the line. if that is clear then make sure all fuel hose's are in good condition and not collapsing from old age. if those are in good condition then there is a problem in the tank and it will have to be removed for inspection....

I changed the primer bulb and now it's not getting

sounds like you hooked the lines up backwards, when you press the primer it is supposed to squirt gas into the tank on the return line cause what it does is draw fuel through the carb and back to the tank....filter line from tank goes to fuel pump side of carb and return line on carb goes to primer bulb then opposite line on bulb to tank...... so when you press bulb it draws fuel through filter in tank through carb and back to tank ! good luck! 2StrokeJim

Traxxas Nitro sport- When attempting to start the car, fuel won't circulate out of the fuel tank into the motor. "Choking" using a finger tip on the exhaust has no effect. The fuel line is...

Could be a pinhole in one of the lines or a small crack or pinhole in the fuel tank. You can check by removing the line from the exhaust pipe and blowing in it. If you cannot get fuel to move from the tank to the carb there is a leak in the lines or tank. If fuel moves to the carb when you blow into the line I would check the exhaust pipe and manifold to make sure that there is not a leak there.

Starts and idles and runs half speed ok -- dies off on full throttle fuel lines & filter ok has ffuel in tank good spark & new plug muffler & screen & ports open clean good compression

Since you don't indicate the make and model, I can't give you specifics, but when I had this problem it turned out to be a dirty carb. This can cause uneven fuel flow and loss of power. At full throttle, you may not be getting sufficient fuel to work properly. Try cleaning the carb a nd update this with the results.

Honda ex1000 will not start--does not appear to be getting gas--manual says to clean the fuel strainer and fuel line--I see the line, but where is the strainer

I believe the one they are referring to is the one at the fuel valve assembly. (Fuel Shut-Off) You could pull it apart to clean it out or pull the line off and blow compressed air through back towards the fuel tank.

Basically if you have fuel in the fuel bowl but your not getting fuel to the cylinder then its most likely your fuel jet in the carb thats clogged.
When you pull the fuel line from the carb fuel should flow freely out of it as long as your fuel valve is open. If you don't have fuel in the carb float bowl then start pulling your line apart until you find where the blockage is.

Hope this helps, please let me know.

Nitro engines can be difficult to start and keep running unless they are in perfect tune. This take quite a bit of experience, even the experts have difficulties sometimes Go to http://www.radiocontrolzone.com/ for web help. Or go to your local hobby shop and ask for help.
