Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

Unit runs but will not cool. Fanruns fine but when turn dial to cool the compressor kicks in for about a second or two the kicks out. Fan works on cool but it will not produce cool air at any temp setting. I have cleaned filter and removed cometic facing and vacuumed the coil face. It was pretty dirty but after all that still would not cool, Unit is installed in a RV and power is provided from house. Gen4erator is also available for power. Unit is difficult to remove from RV and space to get at it is limited to front of unit. Is the problem worth trying to fix/ repair?

You may need to install a hardstart kit if you can get to the compressor.
go to your nearest appliance parts store to get the part and the instructions are usually on it. If not ask the parts man.

Please describe your controls. Does it not have low fan, high fan, low cool, high cool on the dial at ceiling? If yes, low cool or high cool setting should shut it down when temperature is reached via thermostat dial.

Amana Cooling Condensing Unit fan won't kick on

be aware that not repairing this asap that you are causing yourself more problems First I would change out the fan capacitor and see if this could be the problem. Secondly if the capacitor isn,t the problem change out the motor . By continuing to allow the system to cycle like this the compressor will take a dive on you costing more . Good Luck

AC Kicking OFF Breaker

Sounds like you have a problem with your compressor. If the beaker trips the second the compressor tries to come on hen it is shorted. If it takes a couple of seconds, then your compressor is locked up.

Compressor on my RV coleman ac unit bogging down

Take a look at your start capacitor. This the capacitor that kicks the compressor over when it tries to start. If the capacitor is bad, it cannot kick the compressor back over after the first cycle because the head pressure has not evened out yet. It is located in the upper unit on the side panel in a small box. Be careful, highly charged capacitors can zap you if you are not careful. Disconnect power and touch across the terminals with a meter or a screwdriver to discharge the capacitor.

Hope this helps,

Jeff

Blower in house runs, but compressor outside does not

Sounds like control voltage problem. Tsat mat be bad. It is hard to say without looking. Next time this happens. Have someone stands out side by the unit to see if the contactor is pulling in. When you turn the Tstat off and wait and turn it on you may be manually make the contact in the Tstat. If the fan and compressor are not running when you call for cool, Most of the time it is the control voltage. Let me know if the outside fan runs and the compressor does not. Rusty

Air conditioner fan will not come on and unit will run for 1 minute and stop

You hear the compressor kick in (Hum) but no fan comes on? Will the fan come on when just in fan mode, not cool, or do you have that set-up?

Fan runs, shuts down on cool

Sounds like a power supply problem. There is enough power to run the fan but when you turn it to cool the current draw by the compressor drops the voltage. The lower power light is telling you the answer to your problem.
