Computer unplugged from power, computer case open, follow Anti-Static Precautions.

[Anti-Static Precautions:
Your body carries Static electricity.

Static will fry out (Short Circuit), the hardware components inside a computer.
(Hardware component examples such as the Processor, Harddrive, Motherboard, {Chipsets}. Ram Memory, and so on)

Computer UNPLUGGED from power, work on a table.
(On a bed, a couch, or Directly on a carpet floor, are HIGH areas of Static)

Open the computer case.
TOUCH the metal frame.
This action will relieve your body of Static.

Should you get up, and leave in the middle of working on your computer, upon your return be SURE to Touch the metal frame again ]

Unplug the power cable, and the interface cable, from the optical burner in question.
Press the Power On button in, and hold it in for a count of Five seconds. (And I mean FIVE seconds at least. Count 1001,..1002,..1003,..1004,..1005)

Let go of the Power On button.
Do this procedure Two more times.

What you are doing is clearing CMOS Error Codes, and resetting BIOS back to the factory default settings.

Plug the power cable, and the interface cable, (40-pin flat ribbon cable), back into the optical burner.

Close the computer case.
Plug the computer back into power.
WAIT 1 minute, turn the computer on.

After Windows loads you should see a pop-up out of the task bar,
"Found new hardware".
(And perhaps another pop-up, "Found 'Optical drive name' XXXX")

Going to Device Manager, and trying to roll over, update, or uninstall the optical drive, hardly EVER works, IMHO.

(Start > Right-click on My Computer >Left-click on Properties > Hardware tab > Device Manager > + sign next to Disk drives > Right-click on optical drive name > Drivers tab > Then Roll Over, or Update, or Uninstall)

Need to know how to open that puppy up? (Open the computer case)
What the power cable is, and what the interface cable looks like?

Dell Support > Dimension E310 desktop computer > Service Manual,
A) Removing the Computer Cover
(DON'T forget about the Anti-Static Precautions!)

Back to main menu;
B) Removing and Installing Parts

1) CD/DVD Drive

(data cable is the interface cable)

I have a Dell Dimension E310 with the power button flashing amber. I recently replaced the power supply due to an electrical storm, good reason to suspect the power supply. But the only way to get past...

i suggest using a PCI ethernet lan card with drivers cd. this should allow the bypass of the integrated connection to be that of the newly installed device.

Dell Dimension E310 won't boot up

this could be your motherboard, but could also be your video or audio card too. try making sure those are seated properly or try replacing one or both, if you so desire.

My computer willnot restart after signing in

Install winXP on another partion. Transfer your imp files to a different partition. Restart and reinstall the OS on C drive. After successful installation by only deleting the system files, your MS Office will still be there. If u have kept a backup of all files(i.e. complete installation and not typical) then try uninstalling fro the Control Panel and u will get the option to modify, repair or uninstall the software. Click repair & enjoy...sodeep

It depends on if he's buying in a store or online. If he's buying online from Dell he can customize his Inspiron 530 to include a CD/DVD burner. However the default Inspiron 530 does NOT come with a CD/DVD burner which means your friend would not be able to use his nero software.
