Question about Maytag Neptune MAH5500B Front Load Washer

2 Answers

The washer stopped draining during run. It was washing a rug with a back that was coming apart. I think that the bits have clogged the input to the drain pump. First question. Can I get to guts from the front. If so, how do I remove the front panel? thanks

Found the service manual online. You get to the pump through the back access panel (as implied by the note above). Once unhooked to the input and output hoses and the wire harness, you just twist the pump to release it from the bottom plate of the machine.

It turned out that the hose from the sump to the pump intake was just full of the rubber carpet backing. My wife swears that she will never try to wash same again. You gotta love em. The only real casualty was that one of the three veins on the pump impeller got broken off. Looks like about $55 for a new pump -- not too bad. I put the old pump back in. It seems to work okay, albeit less enthusiastically. Perhaps it will hold until the new pump comes in.

I executed the Service test in the manual, and it passed. I don't know much about these machines. I am strictly a DIY when I think I may be able to handle the problem (save some cash). But to my untrained eye, this Maytag Neptune sure seems quality built.

    Thanks for the suggestions. Mike

Frigidaire front load washer. water is not draining out during spin cycle leaving the clothes clean but sopping wet.

It sounds like either your drain hose is clogged or the water pump is inop. If you have washed any rugs or material the may come off and clog the pump that could be the problem.
You can remove the lower front cover ( 2 screws I think) and follow the black rubber hose to where the pump is located on the lower right side when facing the washer. The hose has a spring clamp you can remove if necessary to clean the hose.
Remember to unplug the washer when working on it.

During the wash cycle, the washer started beeping and I found a code "LD" on the dial. What is the problem

Here is what the manufacture says about LD -- my comments will follow

Long Drain
Ld flashes when the water level does not
change after the drain pump is on.
ô Is the drain hose or the drain pump clogged?
ô Is the drain hose height greater than 96"?
ô Is the pressure hose connection from the tub
to the machine/motor control pinched,
kinked, plugged or leaking air?

Phil's comments ---->

Almost always this code is due to a plugged drain pump or hose, it is especially common when washing a rug with a rubber backing that comes off or small articles like baby socks that get caught in the drain system of the machine. Depending on how adventurous you feel in taking this unit apart is your call, but due to the complexity of it I would recommend calling a service expert.

Just one guys opinion..

I clogged my washer drain...

follow the discharge hose into the washer body --- the trap will be at the housing the hose connects to --- not a big job. be sure to unplug the machine and hand bail the standing water out of the basket. keep a sponge and rags with a pail for the water in the trap and hose. no special tools, but it will be metric

Front Loader Frigidaire will not drain model no. LTF530FSO

check to make sure all hoses are not clogged - our washer hose before the pump was clogged due to washing a rug that had deteriorating rubber backing - would not drain until I flushed out the hose that goes from the tub t the pump.

Clogged pump on Affinity Washer

Exactly the same problem. Washed a small area rug that appeared to have pretty much disintegrated. Machine would not drain. Got the same e 20 code. Checked the drain hose, and it was fine. Reamed the house drain just to be sure. Drum appears to have drained, but now the motor runs, and no water enters the machine. Both water hoses are flowing. No further error codes. Nada.

GE Washer won't drain or spin

this is something that you can fix even if your not a technical person . first you have to open the washing machine front panel or back panel , second , follow the DRAIN HOSE to where its connected to a little motor, disconnect the DRAIN HOSE , take the LITTLE MOTOR out and clean it out , it could be clogged.
it happen once and find out the person put the BATH RUG SET
to wash , the rug was so old that pieces of a rubber underneath the rugs clogged the drain , so there was no rinse and no spin.
try it , I hope it helps.

Kenmore Front loader clogged up

open the back panel to access the hoses. look for the largest-diameter round hose and disconnect it. this should be the drain hose. it also should lead to a vertical-rising pipe or hose that then dumps downward (U-tube at top) into your house piping outside the washer. My hunch is the clog is somewhere before the area where you disconnected and may need to remove all hoses from the pump and also clean pump's impeller.
