Question about Troy Garden

1 Answer

I have a Kohler SV590-0016 engine on my TroyBilt Riding Lawn Mower, Last year the wife mowed the grass and said that it started smoking. Then I tried to start it and it was blowing a wet fluid (oil, fuel mix, I think) out of the exhaust and the air cleaner housing. I drained the oil and oil filter to find very thin oil( with bad fuel smell) there was no evidence of metal shavings. The motor will start and run but dies out within about 5 seconds of starting. I have no idea where to begin with this problem. Rings, Head Gasket, Valves, any recommendations???

I took off the valve cover to check the timing and it appears that the valves are functioning correctly. I did notice that when I turn the engine over by hand, there is air coming out of the oil fill tube. I can clearly hear this hissing noise. . I am going to order a ring set and engine gasket set and hopefully get the wife off my back. LOL

This definitely sounds like ring problems. I would not keep attempting to start mower until repairs have been made. of course if you do the rings, all the gaskets will need to be replaced as well. I doubt very much that there will be an issue with the valves, You can save your self alot of money if you make these repairs yourself. You can find everything you need right here, from manuals to parts.

Kohler engine oil leak

Could have blown a seal however before checking for that I would check the drain plug and filter seating if you changed the filter. Make sure the drain plug is not cross threaded. You can run a little low but should never over fill. Hope this will help. Most of the time if over filled you will get some smoke as well.

Need to know how to change transmission fluid on cub cadet lt 1045 riding mower

Cub Cadet has five models in their new Series 1000 lawn tractors, all powered by Kohler engines. Cub Cadet models -- as several other lawn equipment brands -- are manufactured by MTD Products.

The Cub Cadet LT 1045 has a 20-hp Kohler single-cylinder engine, with an aluminum block and cast-iron sleeve for longer life. It has a full-pressure lubrication system with spin-on oil filter for easier maintenance. This engine is not as powerful or as long lasting as the Kohler V-Twin OHV, which is available in other models in the line, but the LT 1045's engine is still solid enough to provide years of mowing.

The hydrostatic (automatic) transmission is a good match with the engine and provides sufficient grip to cut grass on moderate inclines. Power is transferred from the engine to the transmission by a heavy-duty Kevlar belt rather than a more expensive shaft drive. A Kevlar belt also drives the three cutting blades.

The mowing deck cuts a swath of grass 46 inches wide at one pass, and is removable for service and cleaning. Four anti-scalping wheels help keep the deck from scalping grass on uneven ground. The cutting height is manually adjusted from 1-1/2 to 4 inches. The turning radius is 18 inches, which standard for lawn tractors. This model is intended for use on 1- to 2-acre lawns without many turns or small obstacles.

Unless the blade is belt-driven, like on riding mowers, then the blade is attached directly to the engine crankshaft. Hitting a rock with a mower like this is a very common problem. You probably have a bent crankshaft. In most cases this can be repaired, but may not be worth it, considering the age of the mower. But you should call a local small engine/mower repair shop to ask for an estimate. The repair is not something you would be able to do yourself.

MY Kawasaki FH500V commercial lawn mower engine won't start.

Try cleaning the throttle body. If it runs on carb-cleaner being sprayed into the intake then you have a fuel delivery problem, if not you'd be more inclined to more serious mechanical failure. I assume if you use it every day you do the regular oil changes, air filter cleaning, and air-cooling system cleaning, correct? Please indicate if you had a white smoke, blue smoke, or black smoke from the mower too. The motor spins freely when attempting to start, and just doesn't fire, correct?
