I use a Netgear WG111v2 Adaptor on laptop with a Motorola Wireless Cable Modem SBG900. The Wireless Adaptor has a continuous blue light. Signal strength is 86%. There a two symbols in the system tray. One is a computer with a yellow triangle and the other is a computer with a red screen. When trying to acquire the default gateway address, DNS server, Wins server address, this red screen goes green and the yellow triange has a small orange ball going left and right. Then you get Limited or No Connectivity message. Blue light stays continuous. None of these addresses are acquired. IP address is reported as 169.... suggesting no comms.

Is this for a laptop or a desktop? The reason I ask is, if it's for a laptop and mobility is easy, try relocating. For example, bring the laptop in the same room as the adapter to see if it still has limited connectivity. Write back with the results.

If the network you are connecting to has wireless security enabled, try to remove all the preferred networks and reconnect fresh and enter your network key.

One possible cause for limited or no connectivity is the incorrect wireless password set on it.

I just bought NetGear WG111Wireless Adapter,I installed using The CD,but when is completed installing, the picture showed there are no connected with red cross sign on it, when I click to open network...

When you search make sure it shows up "Searching for wireless networks in range" for a while.

If it doesnt and instantly says "no wireless found" is because you have another program using the wireless connections

To solve this simply click

  1. Start
  2. Control Panel
  3. Administrative Tools
  4. Services
  5. Scroll down to "Wireless configuration" or "Wireless zero configuration"
  6. Right-click and select "Start"
then you can search again

Hope it helps

Cheers

No network adapter after restarting computer

Go to the computer manufacturers web site and put in the product number for your computer, then when you have the info on your computer up, you should see a link for support or software and drivers, when you are on the drivers page, look for networking drivers and download.

How can I install a wireless usb adapter WG1111....

First put in the cd that came with the wireless USB adapter. Close the auto setup page(we will use windows wireless network manager which works better with windows firewall . Plug in the wireless adapter and the laptop will automatically install the driver. If for some strange reason it asks you to install new found hardware, follow the promts and install manually and select cd and the directory the WG1111 drivers are located. Press ok and wait for install. Restart the computer.

After restart the computer will come up with a caption New Wireless Networks found. Double click on the wireless Icon in the bottom left hand corner. It will open a seperate screen with all wireless connections avaliable to you. Might be 1 or more networks, depending on whether your neighbours have wireless networks. Anyway find your specific wireless network could be for example NetGear, Dlink, or my home network. Click on connect your wireless connection. Another smaller screen will appear with Key in your password twice( WEP key or WPA key)
Key in your key or password twice and apply or ok. It will connect and close screen.
Restart computer!
After restart the computer will pick up your connection automatically and your ready to go on line. If you move your mouse down to the icon with wireless network in bottom left hand corner it will show your wireless connection in a caption stating the connection name and how strogn signal is. Connection complete.
NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE A WIRELESS MODEM OR WIRELESS HUB CONNECTED TO YOU MODEM TO USE THE WIRELESS WG1111. THANKS!

I am connected to the access point but the internet cannot be found

an Access point is to add Wireless to a LAN. (which is ok if you have a Router connected to your LAN).

if you have no Router,  and only have an ADSL/Cable modem connected to a PC then you should have got a Router +ADSL/Cable modem instead of an Access point.  you can get routers like this which also have wireless, so you get all the functionality in 1 box

Here is a Wireless router, with hub and ADSL +Cable Support
