Question about Mitsubishi VS-45607 45" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Green and Blue are stuck as thin shape up the middle of screen

I purchased my VS-45607 at the local habitat for humanity shop. It has worked great for the last couple of months up to now.

The green and blue are not working correctly all the sudden. Red seems to working just fine. Instead of trying to describe it in words, I've attempted to draw an image of what it looks like.

Is there anything I can do to fix this myself?

    Hey, puppy (Your profile photo),

I very much appreciate your solution. I did order the parts through the site you suggested, and I will let you know for sure if the solution worked or not. (I assume it will considering your ranking on fixya.)

Thank you again, and if you ever need help with computer stuff, feel free to ask me a question any time.

It didn't work after all. I do appreciate the suggestion, however.

It took me much longer than 45 minutes to put the new ICs in, and the failed solution may have been due to other factors such as my out-of-practice soldering skills. It may have also been a bad set of new ICs.

I still have the same problem with the TV as well. The shapes in the middle are somewhat conical in nature.

    Thanks again,

    James Humig

    I'll look into asking them.

You need to replace both convergence ICs numbers STK392-110 they are located on the far left side attached to the large heat sink. You can get replacement ICs at the following link and they provide free instructions with pictures so you can do the repair yourself in about 45 minutes from start to finish. heres the link.

If that didnt correct the problem the only other thing it can be is horizontal deflection and bad yokes. although i would suggest looking at the main board which is on the far right of the chassis and you will see 1 large wire plug that plugs into that board check that board really good for dull looking or cracked solder in the area of the plug. I wouldnt think the new ICs are bad as I have gotten alot of parts through that site and have never had any problems with any of their parts. did you ask their techs for help? They give help for free . I would ask them for their imput, they will help you get the set going again.

Crack in the center of the screen

A new screen is expensive near $350 but you can usually get a good used one for half of that or usually less. Sometimes larger screens can be cut to fit smaller screens. Call your local repair shop they might have some available.

probably having a convergence fail. if you are able check the solder connections on the convergence ICs on the large heatsink located on the middle PCB of the chassis. as long as the fail hasn't gone its coarse you may be able to correct the problem by a simple re-soldering of cracked(bad connection) pins.

Mitsubishi vs-4552A

Call your local TV shops and ask if they have any 45 or 50" screens in the bone pile you could purchase. You should come up with something for a reasonable price $35 to $50 in good to excellent condition. You can cut down the screen to fit if you cant get the exact size. Good luck!

Panasonic PT-53WX53 fast horizontal scroll

Replace Ic7001 and Ic7002 the convergence amps in this unit. Both are STK392-110 Sanyo built Ic's and fairly inexpensive. If you're not at all sure how to replace these take it to a qualified shop. And when you're calling around shopping ask what they charge to replace the convergence amps in these units.
Also take the unit to them rather than pay the pickup and delivery charge, that will save a few bucks.
Have a great day!

Picture has horizontal lines that move to middle of screen........

Just got this fixed. The problem is the 21 (yes, 21) main capacitors. It'll only get worse if they aren't replaced. The whole screen'll start jumping, multi-hour "warm up" times until you get a clear picture, maybe not even then... it isn't pretty. Just nip it in the bud now, and more power to you if you tackle it yourself. A good repair shop ought to be able to do this for under $400 if you can't.

One of your convergence IC's has either cracked loose or burned out. The IC will have to be resoldered or replaced and then the convergence circuits realigned. If you do not have experience in repairing convergence circuits then have a qualified tech handle it for you. This is by far the most common failure in the projection sets and a good tech can have it fixed in about an hour and a half. I charge $150 for that but shops in your area will vary, so call around.
