I have an old whirlpool dryer and the glow plug gets as bright as the sun, but the gas isn't released. I changed the coils, but it still does not work.

Whirlpool dryer heating sporadically?

Remove the lower front panel and turn dryer on. The ignitor should glow bright orange first. After Ignitor glows brightly the next thing will be the flame lighting as the gas valve opens with a click. All this should happen within about a minute or so.

If flame comes on but goes off quickly It's likely one of the Gas valve coils is opening a break in the coil as the coil heats up. This coil will shrink when cool and be able to run again. The coils are purchased as a kit.

If ignitor goes off and no flame comes on the coil kit is likely needed because one coil is fully broken inside its case. If flame goes on but shuts off shortly the problem is as described above and the kit is needed.

There is a flame safety assembly on the can above the burner. If the airflow is poor. the flame tip may activate that safety and turn the flame off. Or the flame switch may be open and not allow the flame to come on at all.

The Flame switch can be tested for continuity with an ohmeter but the valves may ONLY show bad with power applied and can not be tested with a meter as they will test good.. Good Luck

Dryer runs but will not heat. Igniter glows bright red, gas doesn't ignite. Igniter stops glowing after about 10 seconds, dryer keeps running. Timer works, buzzer works. .

Hello. You might have defective valve coils not allowing the gas valve to open. Check to see if you have 120v at the coils. The valve assembly is nothing more than an electromagnet. When the coils are energized, they make a spring-loaded plunger withdraw, allowing gas to pass. After the current is shut off, the springs force the plunger to close off again--just like the coil of wire around a nail(battery powered when you were a kid) and you could pick up small objects magnetically. HOWEVER, you also say that the ignitor glows "bright red"--how old is the dryer? The ignitor usually glows a VERY bright orange--so brightly that you almost can't look at it! A classic symptom of a worn out ignitor is that the center glows but the rest of the glow bar doesn't. If you have an ammeter(meter that checks amperage(current), you should measure about 4 amps +/- on one of the wires going to the glow bar. There is also a flame sensor that will allow the valve to open when it senses a bright enough glow from the glow bar. If you are unsure how to check any of these devices, PLEASE call for a svc tech. I hope I gave you some insight and helped you! And yes, I'm an appliance tech.

I have a Whirlpool gas drier. It stopped heating up so last night my husband watched 2 videos on what to check out.

I would take a look at the radiant sensor. If it isn't detecting the light from the glow bar, it won't turn on the coils. Also, are you absolutely sure the glow bar is lit bright enough? Sometimes they will glow, but they won't glow bright enough for the sensor to detect them.

Good luck!

I have a gas dryer. the glow plug works but wont stay on

You are likely in need of new coils to make your dryer heat again. If the ignitor glows, the thermal fuses and thermostats are good. The coils sit directly on top of the gas valve, are easily replaced and inexpensive. CLICK HERE for the coil kit to get your dryer heating again. Using coupon code 1050 will save you some money!

Whirlpool gas dryer Model #WGD5530SQ0 not heating properly

If your dryer heats when you first turn it on and after a few minutes it does'nt. check the ignitor to see if it is glowing. It should glow bright then you will hear a click and the burner will light. If the ignitor glows bright but you hear a click but no flame and if you watch this for several minutes and this process continues of glow then glow goes out no flame, then you have a bad burner coil. There are 2 black solenoids sitting on top of gas valve. One of them is shorting out after it warms up. Replace both solenoids. You can usually get them as a kit from parts store.

Have a Whirlpool Gas Dryer - model # lgr7646a spins but no heat

Thre is no pilot light. This dryer uses an ignitor (glow bar or coil).
Open the lower front "door" (small access door) and turn on dryer.
If the ignitor does not glow (bright orange), then the ignitor needs to be replaced ($60).
If it does glow, then the gas valve needs replacement ($60).
If it isd the valve, the internal spring is stuck. Do not try to repair it, you must replace it.

I have a whirlpool dryer will not heat

Either the glow bar is weak or the valve coil is failing. Measuring the amp on the coil is the only way to be sure. If the burner lights once in a while it is most likely the coil,

Heat no longer works

Is this a gas model? Does the glow coil get bright orange then go dark? You would want to measure the current on the glow coil if this is the case. It could be a weak glow bar/coil or bad coils on the burner. This all assumes the thermostat is sending full voltage to the burner. Please do not hesitate to ask more questions.

No Heat on a whirlpool dryer. 14 years old.drum turns, timer moves, getting gas to valve, tapped solenoids-no change.burner not lighting. thanks for any info

if ignitor not coming on could be flame sensor mounted on side of burner housing or ignitor ..if ignitor glowing but burner no lighting replace both solenoids bad connections interally on solenoids..also if ignitor not glowing possible small white thermal fuse open.. sensor and fuse can be jumped across to confirm ..
